Manufacturer: Fitz and Floyd China
Fun find, a single china Fitz and Floyd Salt or Pepper Shaker, likely originally part of a 2 piece set but only this one remains. Marked on underside base "FF" near rubber/plastic cap. This looks like a nursery rhyme or fairy tale character to us, a very pretty little girl with yellow hair in long locks, wearing a light blue hair ribbon, a white and blue dress with blue shoes, and carrying a toy brown bear in her arms. We think she is meant to be "Goldilocks" of "Goldilocks and the 3 Bears" only she is shown here carrying a small bear (rather than being in their "bear house" eating their porridge, presumably she is carrying a toy bear). We do not know the age of this old piece but it is not new, it came out of an older home, so it is likely vintage.
Stands about 4 inches in height with a greatest width to her flared skirt of about 2 3/4 inches and a greatest depth (also to her skirt) of about 2 3/8 inches. There are two holes for "shaking out" salt or pepper on the back of her head in her yellow/blonde hair under the blue hair bow. We’ve provided 8 images to show from all angles and in differing lighting. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting on the high gloss surface.
Very nice overall condition with a great look but having a few surface flaws. There is a touch of use/age wear which we will point out but you need to look very, very closely to even see this….we missed this on prior several checks of this piece so nothing jumps out at you here. There are no large chips, cracks, crazing. However, we can see at least 4 very, very tiny flakes/surface chips (not deep at all), one on her hair bow in the front, two on her blonde locks in the back, and one on the tip of her skirt in the front. It is possible that there are others we are missing and perhaps a few scratches or other minor wear that we also aren't seeing on this detailed piece, but nothing large. On the underside base on which this old shaker sits there are a few very tiny flakes and a bit of other wear as to be expected.
Would make a nice addition to any collection of nursery rhyme items or one of Fitz and Floyd collectibles, or a salt and pepper shaker collection in general (and maybe someone who collects just single shakers). Of course this could be the mate you were looking for if you already own one Goldilocks salt shaker! |
