Circa: mid 1800's Condition: Good++ Manufacturer: not marked
This is a nice 5.5" wide blade, antique draw knife with leather handles. Much like the handles on most slate hammers, this draw knife has the superior grip leather washer handles, held in places be the steel handle extensions, and steel washers at both end of the washer stacks. The washers have a stamped square in each to limit the amount the washer can twist. The washer compression between the steel washers is adjustable, so it can be tightened. The leather handles feature on this draw knife are very rare, making this tool unique among many. The steel form appears to be hand forged and tempered, and has a nice sharp cutting edge which is very smooth, but the rest of the steel is less smooth, and not polished like so many of the later production draw knives appear. The cutting edge is very nearly flat across the 5.5" width, only a very slight arc form. There is no rust, no damage, the blade is sharp, and the handle are in great shape! A nice mid-1800's era antique draw knife overall! |
