Manufacturer: Vintage Christmas Ornaments
This is a group of 3 vintage glass Christmas tree ornaments which came out of the same home. These are clowns playing musical instruments or clown musicians. One clown is playing an accordion (we don't think he is playing a concertina since the instrument has keys on one side). The second clown is banging a drum. The third clown appears to be blowing into some kind of wind instrument but we can't tell what that is. None of these have a country of origin marking on their gold tone metal caps. We don't know their exact age but they are not new.
The clown ornaments measure about 3 5/8 inches long to the cap (the drum clown measures slightly less at 3 1/2 inches), 4 inches long with the hanging loop (the drum clown measuring 3 7/8 inches), 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 inches wide (all 3 are slightly different) and 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 inches in depth.
All 3 clowns are all-over painted glass ornaments, using bright metallic paints in red, blue, green and gold, with a muted silvery white for the clown faces and having painted dots for the eyes and on the cheeks and mouths. All the clowns are wearing molded traditional large clown collars, with two of them having bow ties on the front of these. The bottoms of the ornaments are painted black, with this still all there for the drum clown, some of this paint worn away for the accordion clown, while most of this black has been worn away (leaving just black dots) and showing as a silver bottom for the wind instrument clown.
We've provided 8 images to show from all angles. While the camera lighting helps to see some of the detail better, it also changes the colors from what you would see in person, and sometimes blands out details due to the high reflection on the glossy surfaces. So we have provided one image without the camera lighting to help you to understand these pieces better. Please use the zoom feature to examine the images closely.
The cap and hanging loops sit very tightly and are fine for use on all three ornaments. On two of the clowns (accordion and drum), if you lift this up gently you will see that the top neck rims are chipped. With the accordion clown, the cap fully covers the chipping so it is not seen. With the drum clown, if you look very closely when the cap is in place, you can see a touch of the chipping in one spot, however, this is so small that it doesn't jump out at you and definitely won't be seen when hanging on a tree. The wind instrument clown has no chipping under its cap.
Beyond what has been already pointed out, these older ornaments are in very nice usable condition. On the wind clown there is a silver area in the blue of the lower round section of his instrument and a small silver spot in the green of the cuff of his outfit on one wrist, both of which may be as painted or some paint wear, we don't know (these don't show well in the images). There are other age/use/storage flaws/wear such as a faint black line on the forehead of the blown instrument clown, stray dots of wear/spots/discoloration, other general wear, etc., but nothing unexpected for ornaments which were hung and handled and nothing which detracts from their neat look hanging on a tree.
We are listing many other Christmas ornaments. Should you be interested in more than one listing, please contact us prior to placing the order so that we can provide you with shipping cost savings by packing them in one package. The system will automatically provide shipping costs for each listing as if mailed separately. We would be pleased to calculate and provide the postage savings for you. |
