Manufacturer: Enamel Sterling Silver Jewelry
Nifty vintage find out of a home. This is a small pin or brooch in the shape of an animal head or face, a red leopard with white spots. The leopard has his/her mouth open and is showing its teeth. The old pin is made of sterling silver (marked "sterling" on the backside) with red and white enamel done in a cloisonne fashion, such that the silver metal outlines all enameled details. On the backside is a traditional pin bar closure as well as a small metal loop on the topside, so we think you could put a metal ring through this loop and use this also as a pendant if you wish that.
Measures about 13/16 inch wide and about 5/8 inch high. We've shown this old pin with a dime for size comparison. Please use the zoom feature to examine all images closely. We've shot several images of the sterling mark on the back, with and without camera lighting. It was very hard to show but you can get the idea and we guarantee it is there.
While the pin catch turns easily it takes a little extra push or lift to put the pin itself into the catch or take it out. We think this is as designed to keep it from falling out of the catch on its own, as we can see what looks to be an intentional extra piece of metal you need to push the bar beyond in order to close the latch or lift the pin bar up. Not hard to do, but not a smooth motion.
Wonderful overall condition with no major flaws. We see no chips, cracks, bends or pieces missing, nor enamel loss. This came out of a home where it was used/enjoyed so there are minor use/age/wear flaws as to be expected. There are a few tiny white dots of wear on the red enameling (including one above the leopard eye near the top edge which you can see in the images, as well as several other smaller dots elsewhere), some tiny dark dots in the enamel (you can see some of this in the images), a few tiny light scratches, some tiny pitting/pit/pin dots in the enamel (which could be how this was made), overall darkening of the sterling silver particularly on the backside (you could probably shine this up but we have not done so and are selling as is/as found), and other general light wear. But there is nothing unusual to worry about here.
A neat addition to any collection related to leopards or big cats in general, as well as a fun pin to wear and enjoy.
