Circa: 1967 Condition: Good+ Type: Hardbound Publisher: Josten's Military Publications Pages: About 100 ISBN: Not applicable
This impressive hardbound book is The Anchor – United States Naval Training Center, Recruit Training Command, San Diego CA Yearbook, (Company 67-548). Published by Jostens Military Publications, the 96-page yearbook contains color and black/white photo illustrations along with written descriptions of the San Diego Recruit Training in 1967. The book measures 9.25- by 12.25- by 1/2-inches.
Individual photos identifying each of the men who trained in this Company are shown, as are photos of training officers and instructors.
Accompanying the yearbook Is Bluejackets on Parade, a 33 1/3 rpm record album with the sounds of boot camp! The cover for the record album measures 8" X 7 ¾" and features 11 photos of the training.
The record itself is 8-inches diameter and has sound on both sides. To play the record album, the listener needed to fold the front cover underneath the back and place the entire booklet on the phonograph. It appears to have never been played – and is in Very Good condition.
The book is in Good+ condition, although it does show some light damage from storage since 1967: Covers show some soil with light wear to corners and spine ends. They also are somewhat warped at bottom – likely due to storage in a damp location. This could probably be corrected.
Inside, the front page has come loose from the binding at the top – yet it remains bound. There is some waffling at top of that same page – and again at bottom corner of other inside pages – but all are complete and readable.
Overall, the yearbook is still complete and filled with several hundred photos that can still be viewed and spark memories! |
