The box opens to a tan felt- lined writing surface, w removable glass inkwell (pewter reinforced screw top, no cap), pen box w removable lid, and the writing surface folds to expose space for writing paper. The pen box has an old repair, and the outer lock fitting is gone, but overall very attractive & functional.    $325.00
	CIVIL WAR: CIVIL WAR LAP DESK a handsome portable travelling writing box, - beautiful burled chestnut veneer, approx 12 x 8 x 6", hinged top; inside a removable tray w spaces for writing items, some w padded silk lids, one space still contains some pen tips. The space beneath the removable tray folds open again to expose the red felt topped writing surface, and adjoining slots for pens and inkwell- the latter still contains the beautiful original glass ink bottle w turned brass neck & screw top. The writing surface felt is separated at the fold, and can be removed to expose the lower compartment for paper & supplies. The kit has a shield shape partial pearl inlay remaining at the lock hole. The lid shield inlay is missing. The box base is cracked. Overall vg.    $285.00
