The top crest is almost a foot high and is allopen pierced carved with leaves, ribbons, fruits, and nuts. Notice how the connecting carvings are stylized notched branches. The corresponding side carvings have more fruits and grape clusters. The carvings are all highlighted with the original gilt which is in superb condition with only slight age loss and excellent original patination. The perimeter of the frame is deeply finger carved. The outside measurements of the frame are 25 and three quarters by 21 and one quarter inches. This frame is simple but elegant. It is inlaid with boxwood and has inserts in all for corners which made it strong.
