	ANTIQUE SETS, WATCHES, MEN'S JEWELLERY, VARIOUS: ANTIQUE GEORGIAN FOB SEAL CARVED AMETHYST CHE Antique Georgian / Victorian fob, set with turquoise and an amethyst / amethyst paste seal, carved with motto and cherubs. Made in England, early 19th century. Height is approx 7/8 inch. Length of amethyst is 1/2 inch. Made of gilt or gold-filled metal and characteristically English. Very finely detailed, the fob is set on either side with a cabochon turquoise. The seal underneath is believed to be an amethyst, but there is a question whether it could be paste. It is carved with a motto around the sides, in mirror image, which will read when set in wax: RATHER DIE THAN CHANGE. WHile this could be a love message, it was also the teaching of a French nun and mystic, Margaret Mary Alacoque and may refer to her message. WIthin the motto, is a pair of winged cherubs or angels. They are very finely detailed. The whole seal is a marvellous accomplishment, especially considering the tiny size of the stone. Please note: the colour of the amethyst is lighter than it appears in the 'photos. The fob is in very good condition.    $600.00
