DINING SILVER - FLATWARE, SERVERS : ANTIQUE ENGRAVED ST SILVER TRAY BY GORHAM Elegant sterling silver tray - could be used for candlesticks, cards, dishes. Made by Gorham and retailed by Bigelow Kennard & Co.in the late 19th century. (Bigelow Kennard & Co. were jewelers in Boston which indicates the luxurious quality of this tray). From the prestigious estate of Mrs Mary Timmins, well-known collector and authority on antiques, who lectured on the subject in the 1940's, this was one of the pieces she used in her talk on Women in Colonial Days. Measurements:10 3/4 inches long; 6 1/2 inches at widest points. Weighs 270 grams. Beautiful rectangular tray with curved and rounded edges. Rolled, raised rims. The shoulders, arching up and out are profusely engraved with a scroll and foliate design. Each rounded corner has a gryphon - monster head with forked tongue. Exquisite! Back has engraved Gorham Sterling mark and number B2461. Lightly engraved above that is the name Bigelow Kennard & Co. A personal sticker with the name of Mrs Edward A. Timmins and her address in New York refers to Mrs Mary Timmins, the previous famous owner (see above). Very good condition - front is like a mirror. No dings/dents/damage of any sort.
