The skillfully transferred and highly detailed. The pattern is entitled Sicilian Flowers. We have dealt in Staffordshire transferware for many years. This is the first time that we have seen this pattern. Ths surround is bordered in white, highly scalloped, and dimensionally beaded. By its characteristics, we would date it to the 1820 - 30 period. The plate is in excellent condtion, free of chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, and restorations.

It is a footed and embossed sugar bowl with hand painted decorateions of red flowers and black / grey oak leaf designs. Note the pretty bud handles indicative of its early potting.It measures 7 1/2 inches long by 6 inches tall. It is in great shape. The only flaws are two tiny dings to the lid underside which are shown in close-up.

Glaze is missing on one ear otherwise condition is excellent. Unfortunately the family damaged the other one missing two legs and rabbit head. Included only in case a serious collector buys and wants to use it as a study piece. I used damaged pieces when I give talks to groups as they don’t mind passing around a damaged piece and they get to see it well and handle it to get the feel of the authentic. 8 inches high 6.25 inches long; 1.75 inches deep.

FEATHER EDGE WARE: Platters Staffordshire Octagonal Blue Feather Edge Platter Here is an octagonal Staffordshire platter with a blue feathered edge. It measures 15 1/2 by 11 1/2 inches. The edge shows hand-painted feathering. It is not incised. There are two little flakes on the front blue edge as pictured and a large chip on the back side which does not show from the front. This is also shown in a picture. The platter is marked only with an imprinted mark which reads, "Best Goods." Given the damage, this early platter is attractively priced.

The glaze is perfect, just a small amount of light surface usage wear. Note photos below for marks indicating the firm of R. Stevenson (Ralph), Alcock (Samuel) and Williams. Cobridge, (North Staffordshire, England. The marks suggest a date between 1824 when Alcock joined the firm and 1828 when he formed his own pottery.

BLUE TRANSFERWARE: Platters Staffordshire Blue Transferware Platter, GIPSY, 13 x 10 Inches, c. 1850 This medium blue transferware octagonal Staffordshire platter dates to the mid 1800's. It is 13 inches by 10 inches.The unique pattern is prized by collectors on nineteenth century Staffordshire transferware; however, the specific potter has yet to be identified. The central scene, presented in a rectangular frame, features a peasant family before an open campfire and hut. The surround has pebble-like patterning with scrolling.This platter is in great shape, free of chips and cracks. The glaze on the face is very smooth and shiny. The back side shows a y-shaped glaze line that does not penetrate the earthenware body to the front. Glaze is quite shiny.

The potter is Deakin & Sons whose firm operated from 1833 to 1841. Its pattern features three figures in a formal garden setting with moorish buildings along a river in the background.The surround has scenic areas that alternate with scrolling, diapering, and flowers. The Adams pottery used the body for several of its transfer patterns. This particular pattern is Persia. The William Adams pottery produced it during the early decades of its operation, c. 1819 - 1830. The pattern was used later in the century, but this shape was not.Note the graceful handle and prominent spout. It is in excellent condition, free of all flaws. It is marked with the pattern name and pottery initials.

The body is creamware, and the rim is deeply incised and asymmetrically scalloped. The back is combed, a sign of early potting, and it bears an incised cross mark, its only marking. By its characteristics, we can date the platter to 1775 - 1820. It is in super condition with three little scuffs to the edge. There are no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or repairs.

FEATHER EDGE WARE: Platters Staffordshire Creamware Blue Feather Edge Platter This shell rimmed, evenly scalloped platter is made from creamware and dates to the 1780 to 1820 period. The feather edging is an impressed series on curved lines with occasional cascading arches. It measures 15" by 12". Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or repairs. Aside from an imprinted number 14, it is unmarked. Items such as this are usually attributed to the Leeds pottery; however, several others of the early Nineteenth and Eighteenth Centuries also produces feathered wares.

It bears part of a children's story. In the center is George, who has returned to find his possession gone. Other children look on as they straddle a split-rail fence. It reads, "George ran to the spot, but his fate had been seal'd, for a plough-boy in passing, while George left the field, had carried it of (sic) as his prize." Condition is excellent - no flaws.
