CHINOISERIE:
CHINOISERIE APOTHECARY PATTERN DRAINER 1820

This pattern is known as "The Apothecary". The man at the table on the right is using a mortar and pestle and appears to be grinding medication. The pattern was altered to accommodate the hole in the drainer. Usually, the man on the left is sitting at the same table as the apothecary. He is given his own table in the drainer! Although appearance is excellent, the drainer is being sold "as is". It has been restored. There is a large crack that runs from around 11 o'clock to around 5 o'clock. The pearlware drainer is 14.75 inches by 10.5 inches. It is printed in black and colored over the glaze in orange, blue, yellow, green and pink. I have a two drainers, a small platter, four soup bowls and a plate in this pattern.

BLUE AND WHITE TRANSFERWARE/TUREENS & BOWLS:
CHINOISERIE PEARLWARE OPEN VEG C 1820

This lovely Chinoiserie 12" by 8-1/2" open vegetable pearlware bowl was made in Staffordshire around 1820-1830. The pattern is very unusual as the people are not the common stick figures. If you look closely, you may see a coffee pot in the window! Condition is excellent and this piece is one that can be used on your table.

BLUE AND WHITE TRANSFERWARE/PLATES:
BLUE TRANSFERWARE PLATE FLORA C 1825

This 10" pearlware plate is printed in one of my favorite patterns. The lush flowers flow out of the vase and even out of the bowl of the plate! The flowers also rest on the table along with peaches. The pattern which goes almost to the edge of the plate is contained by a ribbon! The soft blue background is stippled. The maker is unknown but the impressed crown on the back could suggest the Clews Factory. The plate was probably made in Staffordshire around 1825. I have four of these plates. There is minor wear to the edges of the plates. Appearance is excellent.

BLUE AND WHITE TRANSFERWARE/CUPS & SAUCERS:
E. WOOD CUP & SAUCER CUPID SERIES 1825

Impressed "Wood" for Enoch Wood & Sons, this dark blue pearlware cup and saucer was made in Staffordshire around 1825. The pattern is most interesting and untitled. There is a dinner plate in this series with cupid behind bars and another dinner plate with a child wearing glasses surrounded by his toys. This does not sound like a theme! The cup and saucer are from a rarely seen tea service which has cupid behind bars on the teapot. The woman behind bars on the saucer is perhaps Psyche who was married to cupid. She was quite unhappy as the only thing she couldn't have in her marriage was to know who her husband was! Actually, that sounds like a lot to me! Maybe the bars are symbolic of Psyche's separation from her husband. I'd like to say "whatever" but that would be too trite. The saucer is 5-3/4"" and the cup is 3-1/4" in diameter and 2-1/2" high. There is a tiny bit of untensil wear on the saucer. The cup is in excellent condition with only a nick on the base ring which cannot be seen when the cup is on the table. Appearance of both pieces is excellent. Take a look at the photos for the details.
