Fine quality Renaissance Revival walnut Victorian sewingstand. The top is all burled. It has two top drawers with segmentedbirdseye (great indication of quality) maple interiors. The top drawer openswith a key. The second drawer has a carved wooden pull (some minor damagewhere it meets the drawer surface). Beneath that is a rounded deep drawerthat would have been used to store the thread. It has a incised carved"handle" in front. The open carved sides feature raised burledpanels and incised panels. This is Also Found in the Middle Pull Out Drawer. There is a Deeper Thread Drawer Attached to the Bottom. There is a Mirror on the Underside of the Lid and a Secret Compartment in the Top. Beautiful walnut Victorian Renaissance Revival sewing stand. The inset center of the top features a rosewood panel with inlay. The top lifts up to reveal an original mirrored (silver loss) underside and a number of compartments. There are two drawers including a deeper thread drawer beneath. Each of the drawers has a raised shaped inlaid panel around the key holder. The legs are set at an angle and have incised carvings and inlay. Fabulous quality walnut Victorian sewing stand. When the toplifts up a gorgeous satin wood interior is revealed with mirror on theunderside of the lid and various slotted compartments. There is an originalsophisticated metal sliding support on the left side. There is a roundeddrawer in the bottom that was used for thread. Even that has a secondary ofsatin wood. The base has fancy turnings and carvings with a shapedstretcher. John Henry Belter Rare Sewing Stand

Rare rosewood Rococo Victorian sewing stand attributed to John Henry Belter. It has a needlepoint on the inside of the lid. The identical piece is shown on page 83 of The Furniture of John Henry Belter and the Rococo Revival by Marvin D. Schwartz. The description reads, "A rectangular box-shaped storage area with a sarcophagus like cover and a lower drawer with tapering sides on simple cabriole legs supported by cross-stretchers that form a shelf in the center. There is a pierced shell-and-leaf carving on the bottom drawer. This simple piece was used with a bed by Belter in a home furnished from the Belter shop." Belter made many chairs, sofas and marble top tables but seldom accessory pieces.
