The potter is Deakin & Sons whose firm operated from 1833 to 1841. Its pattern features three figures in a formal garden setting with moorish buildings along a river in the background.The surround has scenic areas that alternate with scrolling, diapering, and flowers. A pretty fan shape element appears at four points on the surround.Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairines, stains, or restoration.

The Adams pottery used the body for several of its transfer patterns. This particular pattern is Persia. The William Adams pottery produced it during the early decades of its operation, c. 1819 - 1830. The pattern was used later in the century, but this shape was not.Note the graceful handle and prominent spout. It is in excellent condition, free of all flaws. This is a vegetable tureen, 11 inches long by 5 1/2 inches high. The patterning has several scales of mini patterning, naturalistic scenes in frames and angular handles on both the lid and base. Patterning also decorates the interior.It is in good condition with only one star bruise on the interior which does not permeate to the exterior.It is marked with pattern name and pottery. It is 13 inches by 10 inches.The unique pattern is prized by collectors on nineteenth century Staffordshire transferware; however, the specific potter has yet to be identified. The central scene, presented in a rectangular frame, features a peasant family before an open campfire and hut. The surround has pebble-like patterning with scrolling.This platter is in great shape, free of chips and cracks. The glaze on the face is very smooth and shiny. The back side shows a y-shaped glaze line that does not penetrate the earthenware body to the front. Glaze is quite shiny.

It is in great condition, free of chips and cracks and measuring 16 by 12 1/4 inches.The willow pattern was first produced in the late 1700's and has been produced ever since. This one, however, is not a reproduction but a genuine antique. Meaning has been read into the multiple elements of this design which include an arched bridge with three figures, the willow tree in the foreground, a Chinese junk and a pagoda. The design was never actually put together as is seen in classic patterning by the Chinese. These elements were, however, all taken from Chinese designs.

It has a white border and an elaborately scalloped rim. The pattern of this platter is Asiatic Pheasants, a floral design with a pheasant in flight. The surround has images of flowers and geometrics as well as a band of beading along the white border.It is in excellent condition, free of chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, and restorations. There are some underglaze black specks on the underside, a product of its early potting. The color of this platter is a muted blue-gray. The pretty backstamp gives the pattern name.We love the color. The background on the surround is stippled in pink with images of butterflies (or are they moths?) and foliates in dark pink or red. I think dark pink is more accurate. The images alternate with other images in white with butterflies and flowers. The central scene shows a formal park with a fountain that has a sculptured figure atop it. The edge of the plate is gracefully scalloped.

It measures 10 1/2 inches wide and is made of heavy ironstone with crazing that actually adds to the design rather than detracting from it.The artist who added purple embellishments and yellow lustre to this black transfer design was quite skilled and extremely patient as judged by the accuracy of the additions. It is quite beautiful.This plate bears the number of the artist plus some imprinted markings, one of which is a 1 over 64, which probably indicates that it was made during January of 1864.Though it is transfered in black, its look emphasizes the purple. It would look great as part of a purple transferware collection. Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, or stains.

This pattern, Seasons, is quite hard to find and beautiful. Though this plate is damaged, it makes a fabulous presentation and would therefore be fine on a wall or shelf.It measures 10 1/2 inches wide. The hairline meanders around the surround and affects the well slightly. There are no chips.The subject matter of the transfer features a Scottish hunt scene. On the surround scenes entitled Summer, Winter, Fall, and Spring alternate with clusters of fruit. The rim is scalloped and beaded.This plate normally is priced quite high. Because of the flaws, we have priced it moderately.

It was made in the Wood and Challinor pottery, which operated from 1828 to 1843.The romantic pattern is entitled Mesina. The design, done in light blue, features two rather different buildings. One is gothic; the other oriental in design. Two figures appear in the foreground. Its graceful lines make it particularly attractive. It measures 9 inches long by 5 inches tall. The romantic scene features a picnic scene at river's edge. A seaweed patterned band graces the pedestal and interior of the vessel.This gravy boat his one chips on the underside of the base which is barely visible unless the tureen is upended.

RED AND PINK TRANSFERWARE: Plates Adams Red Transferware Plate, TEMPLE WARRIORS, c. 1830 This unusual romantic pattern is known as Temple Warriors, though the pottery never actually named it. It measures 8 inches wide. This plate was made in the early years of the William Adams pottery and dates to the 1820 - 40 period. Condition is excellent. Two figures in elaborate garb stand b before a stylized temple. One appears to be holding a sceptre.The surround is highly scalloped, dimensionally beaded, and bordered in white.

BLUE TRANSFERWARE: Plates Staffordshire Blue Transferware Child's Motto Plate, George's Fate Here is a small child's plate, 5 inches wide with embossed rose designs on the surround. It bears part of a children's story. In the center is George, who has returned to find his possession gone. Other children look on as they straddle a split-rail fence. It reads, "George ran to the spot, but his fate had been seal'd, for a plough-boy in passing, while George left the field, had carried it of (sic) as his prize." Condition is excellent - no flaws.

The imprinted backstamp is the one used by the pottery prior to the name change to Maddock & Sons. The date of the plate's potting therefore is 1842 - 1855.The design features two figures on the banks of a river. The surround has foliate designs. It is 12-sided and panelled. There are no chips or cracks, but utensil marks and crazing are evident.

This pattern was produced by many potters during the nineteenth century. This one is unmarked.We are offering this platter at an attractive price because of two flaws, a colorless hairline visible almost entirely on the back with just 1/8" visible on the front and a fairly large chip, also on the back. It makes an excellent display from the front.
