A 17" by 13" pearlware platter printed in blue in Staffordshire around 1820. The title is "India Vase" which is printed on the back but the maker is unknown. Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or restoration. The back has the wonderful combing that is sometimes seen on early transferware. Take a look at all of the photos to see the details.

This 8" by 4" invalid or baby feeder is beautifully printed with a sheet pattern covered with lilies. Other than a flake on one end which is nearly hidden in the pattern, condition is excellent. BLUE TRANSFERWARE COMMA CUSTARD CUP 1820

Printed in dark blue, the pattern of this pearlware custard cup is known as the Etruscan pattern. The comma shape is quite unusual. Although it is thought to be a custard cup, the serrated rim makes me wonder! Other than a chip on the inside of the rim, condition is excellent. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. AESTHETIC TRANSFERWARE BROWN PLATTER ANGLAIS

This 15-3/4" by 12-3/4" platter was made in Staffordshire around 1880. The rich brown transfer is my favorite color used for Aesthetic Movement transferware. The pattern name is "Anglais". Each size in the series depicts different English scenes in post card like reserves surrounded by the natural world. Butterflies, flowers and a spider in her web make a delightful border around Warwick Castle and Guy's Cliff. Condition is excellent.

Dark blue transferware hunting scenes with dogs are very popular. This 9" pearlware plate is well printed with dogs and hunters. Condition is good with only minor wear to the surface of the plate. This blue transferware jug is in an unusual pattern that vaguely resembles weaving but also resembles Japanese lanterns! The overall effect is something like a pattern from the 1950s. However, the jug was made in Staffordshire around 1840! The printing is beautifully done in shades of blue that range from light to dark. Condition is excellent. It is wonderful to see the way this town looked in the early 1830s! Other than minor marks that can be seen only when you tilt the platter in the light, condition is excellent. BLUE TRANSFERWARE MILKMAID COFFEE POT C 1825

An elegant 11" pearlware coffee pot with the popular milkmaid pattern that was made in Staffordshire around 1825. If you like cows and rural scenes, you will like this piece! It is beautifully printed with three transfers on the body--one large milkmaid transfer, one smaller milkmaid transfer and the floral border. There are other small and sweet transfers of calves and lambs on the spout. Other than a repair to the tip of the spout and perhaps to the tip of the finial(I'm not sure), condition is excellent.

BLUE TRANSFERWARE PUNCH POT SPODE PATTERN

This huge Bridge of Lucano pattern pearlware punch pot was made in Staffordshire around 1820. It is 7" high and more than 12" from the handle to the tip of the spout. The pot has had excellent restoration to the tip of the spout and to a chip on the collar. Appearance is excellent.

Known as The Villagers, this pearlware 14-1/2" charger is printed in medium blue. It was made by Davenport in Staffordshire around 1820. Chargers are much less common in early blue than platters. Condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks or repairs.

BLUE TRANSFERWARE TREACLE POT 1840

This unusual item is nearly 7" high and has a screw top! It is printed in light to medium blue with a lovely floral pattern. It was used to hold treacle which is a form of molasses. Treacle was cheaper than sugar, and thus a less expensive sweetener. Other than a minor repair to the inside of the lid, condition is excellent. If you like rare items in old blue, this is the one for you! The treacle pot was probably made in Staffordshire around 1840.

BROWN TRANSFERWARE JUG 1838

This jug is 10-1/4" to the top of the handle and 9-1/4" to the top of the spout. It is printed in dark brown with a fruit and flower border both inside and outside. The pattern contains the Romatic Staffordshire prerequisites of cows, people, ruins, river and mountains. The pattern is very familiar. Let me know if you know the pattern name. Made in Staffordshire around 1835 by Davenport, this set of six 10-1/4" blue transferware soup bowls is printed with a charming country scene. These would be fun to use for soup, salad or pasta. The "Lions" pattern, made by William Adams in Staffordshire around 1820, is another popular pattern. Beautifully printed in medium and dark blue with a mother lion warning off a bewildered male lion, this 8-3/4" plate is in excellent condition. I have three of these plates in stock. PEARLWARE TOAST RACK BLUE TRANFERWARE

Toast Racks are not common in early transferware. This 8" by 4" by 3" high pearlware toast rack is printed in a soft blue with a pattern that combines flowers, leaves and lace. Condition is excellent with only one chip under a corner that does not show when the toast rack is standing. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. The toast rack was probably made in Staffordshire around 1835. I use these items on my desk to hold letters. Of course, you can use it for toast!

DR. SYNTAX CLEWS TRANSFERWARE PLATE 1825

This 8-3/4" plate is from the delightful Dr. Syntax Series that was made in Staffordshire by the Clews factory around 1825. What makes this plate particularly interesting is the backstamp which has the name of the importer--J.Greenfield, China Store, No. 77 Pearl Street, New York. The pattern name is "Dr. Syntax Return'd From His Tour". Condition of the plate is excellent.

PURPLE AND WHITE TRANSFERWARE:
DAVENPORT PURPLE TRANSFER PLATTER C 1835 ER

There are many names for this color transferware but purple is purple--albeit there are many shades! This 14-1/2" platter is a deep magenta. It was made in Staffordshire by the Davenport factory around 1835. The name of the pattern is "Alpine Amusements" . Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or restoration.

This 9-3/4" pearlware plate in the Leopard and Antelope pattern was made in Staffordshire around 1820. The border resembles the border on Rogers' Zebra pattern but it is not exactly the same. I have two of these rare plates and their condition is excellent.

GREEN TRANSFERWARE FLORAL PLATTER C 1835

Found on a 19.5 inch by 16 inch platter, this pattern is printed in dark green. Although the stringing at the outer edge of the border looks like rope, the pattern is actually made up of tiny leaves. There is an old staple repair to a crack near the rim. Appearance is excellent.

PURPLE TRANSFERWARE PLATTER RIDGWAY BEAUTIES

Made around 1850 by the Ridgway Factory in Staffordshire, this 13" by 11" platter is named "Beauties". The pattern is beautifully printed in a dark mulberry. Notice the unusual border which reminds me of Victorian lace.

GRAZING RABBITS BLUE TRANSFERWARE MUG 1820

Grazing Rabbits is a popular pattern. You usually see it on bowls, platters and plates. It is much less uncommon to find it on a mug. This 3" high mug is printed in medium to dark blue with this charming pattern. Condition is excellent. The transfer is a wrap around, so you see the whole pattern. The border is inside the rim. Found on a 10.5 by 8 inch undertray, this pattern is part of a series entitled "Indian Scenery". The beaver is a North American animal, however! BLUE TRANSFERWARE DRAINER VIGNETTE PATTERN

Drainers were used to drain the juices from the meat or fish onto the platter. This pearlware drainer is part of the "Vignette" service that I am listing in this catalog. It is 13-1/2" by 9-1/2". The pattern has a horse and her foal surrounded by a gorgeous floral border. The series was made around 1820 in Staffordshire by John Bagster. Other than a hairline in the border, condtion is excellent. Drainers are hard to find and highly collectible. If you like drainers, this is the one for you!

This pearlware platter is printed in dark blue with a wonderful Chinoiserie pattern. It is quite large--20-1/2" by 15-1/4". The platter is early transferware as it dates from around 1800. This 17" by 14" platter was probably made in Staffordshire around 1840. It is printed in medium to dark blue with a charming romantic pattern. The pattern is entitled "Spanish Beauties". Condition is excellent with no cracks, chips or restoration. You can tell this platter was handprinted as one of the seams does not quite match up in the border! This 4" pearlware jug has both a rabbit and a squirrel to recommend it. The squirrel is odd looking but very cute. The border is printed upside down which adds to its charm! There is a roughness and small nicks on the spout and two small chips on the base. Other than these defects, condition is excellent. The jug was probably made in Staffordshire around 1830. This is a terrific piece for animal lovers as squirrels are rare on Staffordshire.

This pearlware blue and white transferware sugar bowl has a wonderful print of a stately home with big cows grazing in front of it. The pattern looks as if it should be a famous historical building but no one has been able to identify it. Help me if you can! The handles are quite unusual. I have never seen this form before. One of them has been off and glued back on. Other than that, condition of the piece is excellent. The sugar bowl was probably made in Staffordshire around 1820.

This 7-1/2" by 3" pearlware toilet box is printed in medium to dark blue with a delightful floral pattern. The pattern includes a family and their dog with the village and church in the background. The border consists of what appears to be honeysuckle, scrolls and honeycombs! I have four of these plates. This is an enormous dinner plate--11"--from a rare dinner service, "Mammalia". Each shape and size in this series has a different animal in the center. This is one of many services made in the second quarter of the 19th century that focuses on the extreme interest that people had in exotic animals. This plate features a "Harnessed Antelope". Other than a minor chip on the footrim, condition is excellent.

Ralph stevenson and Williams made this pearlware soup plate in Staffordshire around 1825. The series is called Acorn and Oakleaf Border and the scene in the center is Belvoir Castle--pronounced "Beaver"! Condition of the 10" soup is excellent.

LEAF BORDER TRANSFERWARE PEARLWARE PL 1825

Thanks to Gillian Neale, I now know the name of the pattern and the maker. The plate was made by Enoch Wood and the house has been identified as Lanercost Priory. The scene is a rather generic one of ruins, bridge and men in a boat but the border is composed of stylized leaves linked with a floral vine that together resemble bugs in barbed wire! Actually, the leaves remind me of moth wings! The combination is charming--to me. The plate was made in Staffordshire around 1825. Condition is excellent.

Found on a 9 inch plate, this pattern is printed in yellow, black, pink, green, purple and blue. This is quite unusual! The most unusual color is yellow, which forms the ground for the lovely border. Made by William Adams in Staffordshire around 1825, this dark blue cup and sauce is printed with the pattern known as visit to my Lady's Bower. It is a very romantic scene! This 10-1/4" soup bowl is beautifully printed in three colors--blue, black and green. The pattern name, printed on the back, is Muleteer. The name of the importer--Henderson & Gaines, New Orleans--is also printed on the back. The soup was made by Davenport in Staffordshire around 1835. It is unusual to have a two color piece let alone a three color transfer! Take a look at all of the photos for the details. There are two chips on the back that do not show on the front. This 9-1/2" soup plate was introduced by the Wedgwood factory around around 1806-1807. It is printed in medium to dark vibrant blue with hibiscus flowers surrounding a geometric reserve. The border contains stylized flowers against a diamond shaped fence alternating with four different oriental buildings. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. Condition is excellent.
