L.G. Wright Art Glass 1,892 Examples / Scarce Book

1,892 items are illustrated in color; many more are pictured in black-and-white. This in-depth book reviews the history and production of the art glass of THE L.G. WRIGHT GLASS COMPANY. By James Measell and W.C. 'Red' Roetteis, The Glass Press, Inc./Antique Publications, OH, 1997. Items pictured and described include colored glass, carnival and slag glass, cranberry and vaseline glass, opalescent and amberina glass, peach blow, rub glass, and more. "For about six decades, the L.G. Wright Glass Company has conducted its business from the small town of New Martinsville, West Virginia. Yet this firm has remained generally unknown to the American glass collecting public for many years. Its founder, L.G. 'Si' Wright was a private man, and the company did not advertise its wares or distribute a retail catalog. Nonetheless, some pioneer glass researchers, such as Minnie Watson Kamm and Arthur Peterson, learned of the Wright company and mentioned some of its glassware, but the extent of the Wright line was a well-kept secret. Churchill’s words are appropriate: '…a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.' Nevertheless, the authors have had access to company archives and products in order to publish a celebration of this superb glass. Contents are arranged in chronological order from 1936, getting started, through expansion in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s boom times. Later chapters treat of Mrs. Wright’s leadership in the 70’s and 80’s. Finally, the book treats of L.G. Wright glass in the 1990’s, More than 100 pages of catalog and pictorial history of the production are presented with detailed captions. Here is a wonderful book to add to the reference library of all lovers of art glass and American traditions of glassmaking craftsmanship. 8.4 in. x 10.9 in. softback in near-new condition. 192 pages. Free media mail shipping and handling for deliveries within the 48 United States. International customers please contact us for shipping options and costs. ©2003
