Dolls Cloth & Rag Folk Art Dolls: Black Memorabilia Black American Doll Made By A Loving Mother Black Americana at its best. Beautiful Black American girl doll only 9 1/2" tall. Most Black Americana dolls were made by a loving mother for her child, or a child she cared for. This is a rare size for a home made doll. She is so perfectly crafted one might think it was manufactured, Very tiny, very petite! Generally Black American dolls were doll baby size, not of this stature. The only other small dolls I've seen in 20 years were soft, cloth stuffed, this is a very firm body, attached legs & arms. Pink satin panties & crinolin under a pink poodle skirt so popular in the 50s. She has sought for features, fingers (4 each hand) embroidered facial features & ears! Her hair is very uniquely done, some kind of embroidery stitich make up the hair fibers. This doll was crafted for someone very special, the handwork is unbelievable. She also looks as though her life was spent tucked away somewhere, she is spotless. The doll, more than a toy, a token of love from a mother to a child. The Black Memorabilia dolls were generally only made by Black American mothers for their children, or at times, for the children she cared for. Cloth dolls make from recycled clothing scraps. There was "just enough" black fabric for his face & hands, his stuffed body & arms are a creamy color sack cloth. He has button eyes. The black body fabric is satiny which accounts for the much loved neck, there is a 1 1/4" x 1/2" tear. With normal display I don't think that presents a problem, it's just been loved a lot. Dolls Cloth & Rag Folk Art Dolls: Black Memorabilia Black Americana Doll by Krueger? Black Americana Black Americana doll by Krueger. Doll is 14" tall in very good condition. A gift from my hubby 20 years ago. But, we can't keep everything! It's time to downsize. The back of her head is soft, the face is a moded firmer fabric than the nylon covered back as it appears to have been painted. There are a few softer facial lines that show the lighter nylon fabric color Then the eyes & nose were hand painted. The head is sewn to the body. Molded ears, nose, lips, eyes. The torso is two pieces, the arms are two pieces then attached, the legs as well. The sides of her feet have two extra stitches, not sure why. Her hand crocheted hat has a label "Bonny Charlotte NC, her cotton dress has a label Krueger NYC with the K in a blue oval & the registration logo. The dress is in slightly faded but good condition. The dress has attached matching bloomers & fits her very well. The doll was sold to us as a "Krueger" doll 20 years ago. I have yet to be able to locate a doll exactly like her. The only information I have received from a doll expert was that Kreuger dolls referenced in the "Blue Book - Dolls and Values" by Jan Foulke (Hobby House Press) is that American made cloth dolls with painted faces, made from 1880 - 1930 are mentioned but no sizes are given. Kreuger started business in 1917! Values could be between $1000-$2000+ We will consider offers. for Black American dolls. Black Americana doll

Dolls Cloth & Rag Folk Art Dolls: Black Memorabilia Black American Folk Art Ragdoll Black American ragdoll, quality folk art, made with love. Black American women made these dolls for their own children, at times for those they cared for. Quality features sought after by Black American doll collectors are in abundance on this doll: finely embroidered lips, a "heart" shaped set of lips, face sewn from several pieces, creating a softer face, french knot nose, thumbs, attached arms & legs. Her ankles are slightly stained from her years of wearing her cute rubber shoes. The maker of this Black American doll, actually made the doll to fit the shoes! Addition of rick rack & matching grosgrain ribbon indicate clothes made for this Black American doll were made from the employers pricy hand me downs. Her only flaw is a very tiny white 1/8th spot on her left cheek, might have been a small paint splash. Black Americana, Black Memorabilia, dolls, ragdolls, Black Americana

Dolls Cloth & Rag Folk Art Dolls: Black Memorabilia Black Americana Antique Cloth Folk Art Doll Black American cloth doll from the 40's or early 50s. This fine example of folk art at its finest has many characteristics sought for by the collectors of Black American rag dolls. 13 1/2" tall made from a soft cotton with a slight sheen, this type of fabric had one problem, it was fragile, but so much nicer than "old socks". There's slight thinning of the fabric above & below her lips, I guess "kissed a lot too". Rosebud lips are rare, containing many small stitches which created the thinning, very slight, uniqueness of rosebud lips is worth it! Her body has great structure, composed of several pieces of cloth sewn together, this gives a better form, but here & there you will find thinning or areas where the stuffing can be seen beneath, such as her left arm. Any minor flaw was considered when pricing. I always point out slight imperfections, These dolls are old & have been played with, they'll never be perfect. Other sought for features include beautifully embroidered eyes, cute pigtails, arms & legs that are sewn separately & attached to the torso by yarn. Her dress is a very "preppy" plaid with yellow rickrach, her bloomers are unique in they include an attached top. The maker of this dolls did something different than most, by embroidering around her ankles.

In the 40's it was popular to dress little boys and girls in sailor suits, this is the first time I have ever seen a vintage Black American doll in one! 14" tall she has very tight wool hair. She possesses many sought after characterisitcs including the rare "ears" "tiny tiny" fingerss, nicely embroidered eyes with eyebrows, it appears her mouth was made from red cloth, and sewn so tightly it almost looks like embroidery. Her arms are attached with twine, her legs with the assistance of buttons. Her blue skirt is even pleated! The top is separate with a large color & very detailed white trim on the collar & sleeves. there is a tiny repair to her left leg that appears to have been done many many years ago. Her legs are not one piece like most but rather her foot bottoms are one piece, and sewn to two sections to make the legs. She was pieced & sewn together very well. Dolls Cloth & Rag Folk Art Dolls: Black Memorabilia Black Americana Antique Cloth Folk Art Doll Black American ragdolls are a wonderful example of American folk art. Generally made by mothers for their daughters, occassionally for friends or the children they cared for, she might actually have a different maker! 12 1/2" atll, crafted from soft black cotton with a slight sheen, that has a tendency to thin from use, rubbing or sewing. There's a 1/4" area at the back of her head likely from a little girl playing with her favorite dollie. The dolls clothing was always made from saved scraps, this doll's dress of red cotton & white polka dots was a popular late 40's fabric, her skirt is lined with remmnants from a slip, her collar likely from nightclothes. Not matching at all, her dress was closed in the back by fancy green buttons with gold sparkles! This mother was not quite as artistic as some with her facial embroidery possibly raising the question, was she made by someone's mother or actually made by a child? Her hair is black yarn pigtails. Whoever she was, she did a good job making her legs & arms separately & joining them to the torso by yarn.

Dolls Cloth & Rag Folk Art Dolls: Black Memorabilia Black Americana Hand Puppet Black Americana Hand puppet appears home made in late forties or early 50's. The face is similar to those Woolworth's 5 & 10 cents stores sold for the home maker creating puppets or toys for her children. About 13" tall in used condition, there are area on hat & outfit where red fading occurred. Red & white felt collar, peaked clown hat. The cloth is showing signs of aging, some fading of the red as shown in photos. Tiny tiny holes in the felt collar, that occurs from age as well. I am hopeful a dry cleaner could remove the stains..
