Asiatic Pheasant Blue and White Platter.

A large Staffordshire meat platter, or ashet, decorated with the famous Asiatic Pheasants design in pale blue. Very pretty antique plate, dating from Victorian times, can’t identify the pottery, as several potteries produced the Asiatic Pheasants design, among them. J. Reeves of Fenton, Staffordshire, Wedgwood & Co, and Wilemans. Ashet measures 39.5 cm by 32.5 cm (15.1/2 inches by 12.3/4 inches). It is in very good condition, having no chips or cracks (although there is a shallow nick off the foot rim underneath where a wire has caught it. Usual tripod marks from firing. A very nice plate.

Norton Pottery: Pottery
Norton Pottey Planter

norton pottery For sale is a pastel green Norton Pottery planter. Very heavy-duty planter with incised mark: Norton USA 313. It looks just like a McCoy item. The only Norton I can find in Lehner's is Ann Norton of Clay Craft Studios; and F.B. Norton Pottery, which would be too early for this item; and Norton & Fenton, also too early. Clay Craft is a possibility. Or, perhaps there was a Norton McCoy? This vase/planter is in excellent condition and is 10.5 long x 4 wide x 3 high. It is heavier than a comparable Abingdon vase, which as you know, is one of the heaviest old potteries out there.

Pratt Ware Shire Books 296 by: John & Griselda Lewis

Book Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Pratt Ware takes its name from a family of potters who worked in Staffordshire in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The authors describe the relief-decorated, underglaze-coloured earthenware, made from about 1780 to 1840 in England and Scotland, and how it was moulded and coloured. As a result of many years of research, they show that the ware was made not only by the Pratt family at Lane Delph and Fenton, but also by other potters in Staffordshire, Shropshire, Derbyshire, Devon, Yorkshire, Tyneside, Wearside, Liverpool and the east and west coasts of Scotland. The authors have identified, mainly by marked pieces, at least two dozen potters who made this ware.

Antique Pot Lids Underglaze Prints on Pottery Rare Book

THE PRICE GUIDE TO POT-LIDS AND OTHER UNDERGLAZE COLOUR PRINTS ON POTTERY by A. Ball, The Antique Collector’s Club, Suffolk, 1970. This rare out-of-print book is the most complete work available on the subject of pot lids – lids which were put on top of pots. These lids were often decorated with a picture descriptive of the contents of that pot. 'It is generally accepted that the firm of F. & R. Pratt & Co. of Fenton in Staffordshire were primarily responsible for the production of pot-lids as we know them today. Whether this is true or not is still in doubt, because there is certain information available which shows that other manufacturers were also in production contemporary with Pratt’s, not the least of which were Mayer & Co., of Burstem and the Cauldon Pottery Co. of Shelton.' This book covers approximately 600 different covers – their name, maker and date when known, and price information (in British pounds at date of publication). This book is a collector’s item in itself and an invaluable reference for the collector, dealer, or historian of decorated ceramics. 5.5 in. x 8.5 in. hardback with dust cover in very good condition. 509 pages. This text is comprehensive in historical scope, treating English pottery from the Stone Age to the 20th century. The author discusses and illustrates the work of the Wood family of Burslem, the cream-colored earthenware of the eighteenth century, Castleford ware and ‘stone china’, the underglaze colored ware of Pratt, and the enameled figures of Walton and Sherratt. She also details a wide sample of popular nineteenth century ware.
