An elegant two-tone and handpainted fine porcelain Noritake Chikaramachi tea set that includes a teapot and lid, creamer and suger, 7 cups and saucer sets, 1 cup without a saucer, PLUS 8 dessert plates. Beautifully decorated with a gold floral design and edging. Condition: The knob handle on the teapot lid is broken off, but it is a clean break (see photo) which can be repaired easily with porcelain cement as I have the knob here. Otherwise this set is in very good to excellent condition, with just a bit of gold wear on the plates. Marked Chikamarachi with a crown and laurel wreath, and the words Handpainted and Made in Japan, all in red. According to my research, Chikaramachi is a Noritake mark that was used in the late 1920s and is taken from the porcelain painting factory that was opened by the company on a street called Chikaramachi in Nagoya, Japan in 1928. The factory mark was only used for a very short time. This set still has a lot of wear left and would set a beautiful dessert table. Discounted from the replacement value due to less than perfect condition. |
