Condition: Used Manufacturer: Consolidated Gas Electric Light and Power Company
This 1941 report booklet was produced by the former owners of today's Baltimore Gas & Electric Company--the first gas utility and an early electric utility. Published when the company was still the Consolidated Gas Electric Light and Power Company of Baltimore, it gives a history the company since its inception as The Gas Light Company of Baltimore until 1941. The title of this 38 page booklet is: A Century and a Quarter of Continuous Public Service. Included with the history are a reproduction of an 1816 ad Rembrandt Peale's Baltimore Museum that was lighted by the company, a photo of Rembrandt Peale, and a photo of a painting from the Peale Museum. Also included are photos of all the Presidents of the company, as well as photos of the Chairmen of the Board and Executive Vice-Presidents through 1941. There are also photos of Spring Gardens Gas Works, Bethlehem Steel Company's Sparrows Point plant, a reproduction of a map of Baltimore in 1801, then-and-now photos of the Generator Room at Westport and Safe Harbor, financial statistics, early photo of PP&L at Holtwood, PA, and a bird's eye photo of Baltimore in 1941. A list of 1941 Directors and Officers completes the booklet. All interior pages are smooth, clean and unaffected by age; the cream-colored cover resembles pastel drawing paper has smudges and an inkspot or two. The bottom edges of the cover, which are 1/8" larger than the interior pages, have a deckled look, apparently from sitting on a shelf. A nice look at early utility history with plenty of text. |
