Exquisite Victorian figural mechanical covered butter by Meriden, pattern #4798, with diamond cut flower and bird design, heavy embossing, filigree and appliques. Heavily, but evenly tarnish, this piece looks great as is and would look superb polished! A few small flaws: there is one chain missing, one knob has come off but is not broken and can be easily restored to its rightful place, and there is some interior damage to the bowl and butter tray. Nonethless, as a display piece, it is exceptional. I do not detect and dents or dings in this piece. Covered butters of this quality go for up to $350.
