Circa: late 1800's Condition: Good++ Manufacturer: KERBY & BRO. MAKERS 51 FULTON ST. N.Y.
This is a very nicely made ivory inlaid boxwood caliper rule. Designed for a shoe maker, it has measurement increments in inches, meters, Paris, and American shoe sizes, I think (the numbers don't match today's shoe sizes). The inch scale goes from 0-18" on the back side and can be read with the moving caliper jaw, or the ivory scale reads up to 4" on the front side, length wise and 3" width wise. The meters scale picks up at 11 meters and goes to 35 meters and can be read with the front of the caliper moving jaw. The condition is very good with some brass tarnish, very solid good++ ivory, very good marking, two stains on the back side (shown), the owner's name on the back side, neatly stamped away from any scale markings. Very little wear overall. <br> A quality made tool, by a rarely seen, quality tool maker! Size: 19" long overall. |
