| This is a very nice vintage cast iron, pistol shaped, and graduated 4" steel slitting tool or gauge, generally designed for cutting strips of leather for harness making, but may have other uses as well. It comes complete with a good sharp cutter and adjustable width feature that has a graduated scale in inches on it. The tool is not marked in this case, although the shape of the pistol grip is identical to the marked Osbourne models we have and/or have seen. The Patent date is 1876 reissued July 17, 1877 on this design. The slide bar has the capacity from 1/4"4" widths, and can hold a cutter up to 1/4 x 3/4". The pistol shaped handle appears to have had black paint or Japanning on it originally, about 70% remains on it. All in good condition with no cracks or damage, a good clean useable tool overall, very near like new. The cutter is sharp and ready to use! A nice clean vintage leather working tool! |
