Circa: late 1800's
This is a nice clean, quality made, 1" wide x 13.4" long socket firmer chisel, marked "HUDSON TOOL CO. WARRENTED" on the steel. It is sharp and ready to use, some minor pitting noted, none around the cutting edge. It has a nice hardwood handle with the leather end wrap, or cap, and there is a little bit of wear on the end cap, but well attached. No cracks or damage noted. This is a fairly rare example of a company that was in business in the 1880 era. We have seen very few of their tools! They were located in New York from what we can gather, but we are not sure if they were in New York City. The quality of the steel seems comparable to the better known brands like Ohio Tool, and Buck Brothers. Ready to use! |
