Circa: 1940's Condition: excellent Size: 11 1/2 inches tall Type: Gonder Pottery Vase 11 1/2 Inch 1940s Country of Origin: United States Manufacturer: Gonder Ceramic Arts Inc Author: G. Lawton Gonder
Gonder flared bulb vase #513 is in excellent condition and stands 11 1/2 inches tall.
Gonder Ceramic Arts, Inc., was opened by Lawton Gonder in 1941 in Zanesville, Ohio.
Gonder also developed the use of what he termed "Volcanic Glazes." This process involved two glazes with different chemical properties and different melting temperatures. When the piece was fired in the kiln one glaze would actually run or melt over the other.
Gonder pottery is functional and of high quality. Most pieces discovered, even today, show little wear, and are in exceptional condition, a tribute to a true ceramic engineer. Gonder’s glaze treatments were so good that many pieces do not even reflect the crazing which appears on most other pottery. All in all, Gonder is a distinctive and quality art pottery, which has yet to be fully appreciated by collectors. |
