Circa: mid-1900's Condition: Good+ Manufacturer: Bernard
This is a nice clean and sharp lopping shears, marked "BERNARD 75" near the pivot joint. These vintage lopping shears have the heavy duty hardwood handles with the extra long steel sleeves on the handles for additional strength, they also have a heavy duty steel ferrule at the point where the steel arms of the shears attach to the handles. A nice design, very well made. There is some minor wear on the cutting edge surfaces, but the shears cutting edge is very sharp, and cuts very well. Another quality feature it the adjustable pivot screw, that allow the user to adjust how tightly the two segments fit together, and because of the design, once set and locked in with the lock nut, the shears remain in that same adjustment. The segments can also be taken apart for sharpening with ease. The shears are 24.5" long overall. The wood handle are very solid, no cracks, and a nice smooth finish and patina on the wood also. A good heavy duty, lopping shears overall. |
