Circa: Early 20th century Condition: Used Size: 12 inches Type: Wood/Glass Country of Origin: United States Manufacturer: Testrite
This listing is for a wood and glass bath thermometer by Testrite. We believe this bath thermometer dates to about 1900. This Testrite thermometer features a glass tube inside a wood housing with a turned handle. The idea was to place it in a bathtub and let it float upright then grab the handle to lift it out and see the temperature of the water. The reverse side has Testrite Made In USA, No. 880/12, Bath Thermometer Dr. Forbes Specifications, A-Hot bath B-Warm bath C-Tepid bath D-Temperate bath E-Cool bath F-Cold bath. The front has the temperature scale and the letters corresponding to the reference on the reverse. This bath thermometer measures 12 inches long and is about 1 inch square. The wood has no varnish or even any sign that there ever was a finish. The glass is clear no chips or cracks and the print inside is sharp and clear. The mercury has split into two pieces. The original owner wrote 100 in pencil on the wood; we were told this was his favorite bath temperature. This Testrite Dr. Forbes Bath Thermometer is a fabulous decorative primitive item.
