Circa: 1944 Condition: Used Manufacturer: Unknown This is an ashtray made by a sailor on the battleship USS Idaho during WWII. Classified as Trench Art, the material used is brass shell casings of various caliber. Surrounding the center shell are smaller shells - the taller machine gun shells are marked "FA 27" (these form the legs) and the shorter pistol shells are marked "FA 36". Two of the 27s are dented. Three Lincoln head pennies have been molded into a curve to hold cigarettes - they are dated 1920, 1930, and 1936. On the base the artist has etched, "L. W. Driner/ U.S.S. Idaho".
