Circa: 1942 Condition: Excellent Original Condition Size: Height - 15 ¼” Width - 12 ¼” Manufacturer: Kriebel & Bates This is a lovely antique religious print of Jesus Christ standing outside, knocking on a closed door, with weeds and thorny brush surrounding him. It is titled, "Christ Knocking at Heart’s Door" by famous artist, Warner Sallman.

Sallman was the best-known Christian artist of the early twentieth century. In this picture, Jesus’ young, handsome face seems to closely resemble the painting of the ‘Head of Christ’, in which Warner Sallman became most famous for. It is said that in this picture, light radiates from Christ and reflects off the house so that it forms the image of a heart. I can’t seem to find the image of the heart however. This is a bright vibrant, and colorful print. The bottom left hand corner reads the date and publisher’s name, "Copyright 1942, Kriebel & Bates". Above that, is the artist’s name and date, "Warner Sallman 1942". Original, gold-painted molded wood frame. Both the print and frame are in excellent original condition. Original glass, paper backing, and original string hanger. This picture is indeed a beautiful reminder of the calling to salvation by Jesus and that He is waiting for us, always!!! Circa 1942.
*** Below, I’ve included some interesting information on this picture:
The scripture relating to Jesus knocking on the door is taken from a passage in the book of Revelation, "Listen! I am standing and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will eat together". (Revelation 3:20)
"It is noted that the door in the painting has no handle, and thus cannot be opened except from the inside. That person on the inside is the center of the picture and Christ is after that person. That person is you and me. It is an eternal picture because no single generation of persons is represented by the character inside the door. Each generation must decide for itself whether it will open the door or keep God waiting outside. Christ still stands at the outside of the door, waiting, ever waiting. Will we invite Him into our lives?"
