This is a very compelling and rare antique lithograph featuring Saint Rita with Baby Jesus. This special picture depicts Saint Rita wearing her habit, as she was a nun, kneeling on the ground with her bible open and a cross displayed, wedged within a boulder.

| Pictured above her is the heavenly young Child Jesus holding a bouquet of lilies in one hand and crowning St. Rita with a halo of roses in the other. The crown may possibly represent the crown of thorns in which she so famously got pricked by a thorn in her forehead when she helped carry the crucifix of Jesus. Interestingly, the wound on her forehead bled for 15 years until the day she died. I assume this picture depicts the time in life before that happened. This print has beautiful details throughout with nice, rich lush colors. The print is signed in the lower left corner, "Leiber". This print is in excellent original condition. The decorative original molded wood frame retains the original gold finish and is also in excellent original condition. Original glass, old backing, and replaced wire hanger. Circa 1920’s. |
