This is a very attractive and captivating print of Jesus, originally painted by famous listed artist, Ralph Pallen Coleman (1892-1968). His signature can be found towards the bottom right of this print. Through research, I discovered that this picture goes by two different titled, one probably being the real title. The titles are, "The Savior" and "Christ at the Alter". Judging by these titles, this print features a handsome portrait of The Savior, Jesus Christ at the alter, dressed in a white garment and a white alter cloth. He appears to be in deep thought and prayer. This lovely antique print radiates with charm, beauty, and a sense of pureness. The bottom right corner of the print reads, "Copyright R.P.

Coleman; Litho in U.S.A.". This print is in excellent original condition, except for some very light staining at the bottom left, which actually blends quite well with the picture. Original, gold-painted molded wood frame. The frame has a beautiful, decorative gold pattern throughout with an interesting and complimentary whitish-cream color in between. The frame is in excellent original condition with only very minor age-appropriate wear to the finish. New wire hanger. Circa 1940’s.

***I’ve included, below, an interesting find about the famous listed artist, RALPH PALLEN COLEMAN:

A native Philadelphian and a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art, Coleman was a famed illustrator and painter. He studied at the Philadelphia Museum School, and began his career as an illustrator for magazines including the Saturday Evening Post, Cosmopolitan, Ladies Home Journal, and Good Housekeeping. During World War II he started his first religious paintings and this subject area became the focus of his career. He was a member of the National Society of Mural Painters and the Society of Illustrators.
His first illustration appeared in the Saturday Evening Post in 1915. He went on to illustrate many more magazines and books. In 1942, he painted "The Eternal Christ", a haunting picture of Christ on the battlefield. This painting became so popular that several million copies were distributed to civilians and soldiers during the Second World War. He also painted many portraits of prominent Masons and Military personnel. He was commissioned to design over twenty windows for the Grace Presbyterian Church in Jenkintown, PA, which were then fabricated by the Willet Hauser Studios.
