Selman Abraham Waksman (1888 – 1973) was an American Chemist and Microbiologist. Waksman is recognized for his work with antibiotics, a term he himself coined, most notably the discovery of streptomycin, the first antibiotic active against tuberculosis, for which he won the 1952 Nobel Prize in Medicine.
