12.75 x 12.75 x 14.5" Early Peoples Republic Chinese jardinere, with personal gift dedication. Hand-painted on the vase is a complex continuous scene, featuring many figures engaging in a variety of scholarly and recreational activities, as well as decorative landscape elements. The painting itself displays a rare level of mastery in its precise detail, perfect composition, and expert rendering of the figures. Dense, multicolored patterning borders the scene and decorates the top side of the lip. Personal inscription reads, "To: Messrs Wing Hing Lung Co., Habana, Cuba From: Chun Loong Sang, Hong Kong," With text or signatures, written in Chinese, on either side. Gold leafing at the rim has some wear, otherwise excellent condition. No markings on the bottom of the piece. Paypal not accepted for this transaction. Wire transfer only. The jardiniere was actually signed by a rather famous artist, Wei Yongsheng and dated by him to the year Gengyin which corresponds to 1950. Wei Yongsheng (1910-1995) was a student of Wang Qi, one of the Eight Friends of Zhushan. He taught at the Jingdezhen Ceramics School before. The inscriptions can be translated as follows, 亚湾拿古巴永兴隆大宝号惠存 (This jar will be) Kindly kept by the great company, Yong Xing Long in Havana Cuba (Wing Hing Lung in Cantonese dialect. 香港晋隆生瓷?f敬赠 Respectfully given as a gift by Jin Long Sheng Porcelain Company, 时在庚寅年冬月 In the winter of the Year Gengyin (1950) 魏慵生绘于景德镇 Wei Yongsheng painted this in Jingdezhen
