Circa: early 1900's Color: age patina and old paint Country of Origin: United States Manufacturer: Unknown American Crafted Antique Author: JM Picker Every couple of months JM will come walking through the door, bright and early, carrying one of his marvelously original Folk Art pieces. This time I think JM has really outdone himself. 'Here comes the Sun King'. He was humming that old Beatles song as he carried his latest creation in and sat it on top of the counter. 'Like him', he asked, smiling from ear to ear. 'Yes. Very much', I answered, then added, 'If I had to guess, I'd say you call this piece 'The Sun King', right?' Well to make a long story a little less long, I was right. JM's latest folk art creation is made from vintage weathervane and lightning rod parts, with an old porch column top as its base. The piece is simple, yet very eye-catching and wonderful. The Sun King piece measures 36 inches tall with an 8 x 8 inch antique wooden base, a three sided lightning rod finial at the top and a white milk glass lightning ball in a style called, Moon and Stars adding their ageless beauty to the star of the show, a beautiful old brass plated, pot metal, two sided, smiling faced star JM has named, 'The Sun King'. This is a one of a kind; JM Picker original piece of folk art and it is signed on the backside of the wooden base by non other than JM Picker himself. I don't know how he does it, but the surprises just keep coming.
