Circa: 1910-18 Condition: Good++ Manufacturer: Stanley U.S.A. (Bailey)
This is a very nice clean Stanley No. 5 Jack plane from the early 1900's era or a type 10. This type has the rosewood handle (tote) and front knob that are in solid condition, with only minor wear, no chips or cracks on the front knob, and as you can see there is a piece chipped off the top end of the tote handle, otherwise very solid, with a nice finish. This plane is in good useable condition overall with about 85% of the original black Japanning intact. The bare metal surfaces are clean, the bottom is smooth and flat. We note some minor tiny dings on the one side of the plane, appear like tiny black spots. This plane is 15" long, with a 2.25" wide cutter. The blade is marked "STANLEY NEW BRITAN CONN. U.S.A.", with the V shaped logo, is sharp and is about 70% intact, plenty of use left in the cutter. The body is marked "BAILEY NO. 5 PAT'D MAR-25-02 AUG-19-02.APR.19.10". The cutter is about 70% intact, sharp and ready to use. We see no cracks or rust on this nice clean plane! All adjustments work fine, no missing hardware, very nice working condition too! This is a good Stanley plane in ready to use condition!
