Profusely illustrated in black-and-white, this early out-of-print book is a definitive guide to
FURNITURE OF THE PILGRIM CENTURY 1620-1720 including Colonial Utensils and Hardware. By Wallace Nutting, Bonanza Books, N.Y., 1921/1971.
This book is a collection of black-and-white plates—1,000 photographs and drawings of representative furniture pieces of American origin. Each plate is keyed to a descriptive caption in the text that gives details about the owner, features of design, dimensions, historical facts and other interesting or curious bits of information. Carved oak and pine chests, one, two, and three-drawer Hadley chests; herring-bone walnut highboys, carved boxes used to store Bibles and other precious articles; scrolled cupboards; Carver, Brewster, and Pilgrim slat black chairs, turned day beds; and the celebrated Dr. Samuel Fuller cradle are among the articles included. This work still remains the most comprehensive study of the subject and its reissuance should be a boon to all antique collectors and dealers and others interested in early American furniture.
