Ready to frame. Engraved by A. Gleser. This is an excellent condition 19th century full page engraving taken directly from the painting titled "The Good Shepherd" by German artist Josef Kehren (1817-1889). "Kehren shows us the crucified and risen Christ, who saves by virtue of his suffering and death, rather than the guide and teacher". This engraving is removed from the 1899 copyright book titled "The Light of the World, Our Saviour in Art, A Book Without Words...Every Picture a Sermon" which contains over 100 engravings of the world's greatest masterpieces. A copy of this book is in the Smithsonian Library. The publisher's preface is signed by Abram P. T. Elder. This engraving comes with the original guard sheet with descriptive letterpress.
