Circa: 1961 Condition: Good Type: Hardbound Publisher: J.G. Ferguson Publishing Author: Meta Given Pages: 632
The Modern Family Cook Book is another of Meta Given's comprehensive cookbooks, published in 1961 by J.G. Ferguson Publishing. It contains 632 pages of recipes, followed by a glossary of terms and an index. There are many full page color illustrations.
Meta was concocting recipes at 10 years of age in her home in the Ozarks, then early began using her ingenuity to dress up the simple foods at hand, making unusual combinations, serving them in new ways.
Soon she was teaching other girls to cook, guiding their efforts particularly during WWI in the canning and drying of foods.
She headed one of the first home economics departments established by a commercial food organization and did three years of research on evaporated milk. Later she became foods editor of the Chicago Tribune, and then her own experimental kitchen.
The book is in Good condition with only very light edge/corner wear and a few corner bumps. The dust jacket is Good overall, with some edge/corner wear. A previous owner's name is handwritten inside the front. Dust jacket is marked as book club edition.
