Circa: 1860 Condition: very good. antique. used Color: aged brass Country of Origin: United States Manufacturer: US Made Author: unknown
A Federal oval US cartrisdge box plate (Reg. 1839)made using the Dingee dies that featured the tall, more narrow, round based U & S. This old box plate is in the same, unpolished condition as when it was found. The plate retains a great looking age patina that I think would benefit from a little gun oil, but that's a decision I'll leave to it's new owner. The piece was purchased many years ago from a private collection of Civil War artifacts. It still has the original lead backing, but the loops have rusted away long ago. The US box plate was made using the same molds that formed the US belt buckle plates. It measures approximately 3 7/16 inches across and 2.25 inches wide and other than a few bumps and bruises, the cartridge box plate is in very good condition. Please see the photos and if you have any questions, feel free to contact Picker’s . Thank you, JM Free shipping with purchase. |
