Circa: 1874 Condition: Very Good Color: Silver and clear glass Country of Origin: United States Manufacturer: Wm. H. Rogers & George W. Smith
This castor set was made by Wm. H. Rogers and Geo. W. Smith in Meriden, CT during the late 19th century. It consists of an oil cruet and a vinegar cruet, a salt and pepper shaker and a mustard pot. The revolving silver holder comes apart for easy polishing! The holder is made of Quadruple silver plate and is identified by the mark on the top section: a circle with Wm. H. Rogers & Geo W. Smith, Quadruple, Meriden, CT. The bottles are molded blown glass with an allover starburt pattern. The salt and pepper tops are silver and fit fine. The cruets have glass stoppers that fit tight. One stopper is chipped at the bottom. The mustard jar has a silver top but it is not attached. It appears that someone attempted to repair it. The stand is 17" tall. The cruets are 8 1/2" tall with the stoppers, the salt and pepper set is 8" tall. The mustard jar is 5 1/2 " tall with the lid. They are all 1 3/4" across the bottom. This set is in very good condition and would be an excellent addition to your Victorian table setting. |
