The Ormolu Jewelry Caskets were done in a Rococo style during the 1940's and 1950's. This particular casket features cherubs with intricate filigree, rhinestones on the lid and single rhinestones atop each foot. A courting couple in a brooch type setting sits on top of the glass lid. . This piece has extraordinary decorative features. To see the cherubs better, use the zoom feature Tias provides.
The box has triangle shape and measures: 5 x 4 1/4 x 3 inches. It has velveteen covering the bottom of the box, both inside and outside. There are no markings, but it has the look of either Stylebuilt, Matson or Globe manufacturers.
These types of vanity pieces have become popular collectibles and are also very hard to find in such great condition as this one. It has been well cared for and the only fault I see is some wear and a couple of stains on the velveteen.
