Miniature Lidded Box, Faux Scrimshaw Bird Design. A cheeky little bird with a long bill and bright black eye is depicted on this faux scrimshaw box. A reproduction of boxes made by sailors and whalers of the 19th century, it measures only 2.25" long from chest to tail and 2" from the top of its head to its belly. It stands less than 1" tall and is marked MMA for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The material seems to be resin stained to look like old ivory. This lidded box might be the perfect desk accessory for a guy who loves the sea.
