Circa: 1950-1970
Manufacturer: Fred Press

Sprays of gold stemmed roses with white flowers decorated this 9 1/2 inch tall brass collared carafe made by Corning and decorated by Fred Press. Here is some information I found online about Fred Press.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Fred Press founded the sculpture collection Contemporary Arts, Inc. and taught at the Vesper George School of Art. He is perhaps one of the most versatile and prolific of America’s present day artist designers. Hundreds of his original sculptures have been reproduced and collected.  His paintings, which have been exhibited in one man shows as well as group shows and competitions, have brought critical acceptance as well as prizes and have been acquired by such notable institutions as the Worcester Art Museum. His product designs, which have been distinguished by New York’s Museum of Modern Art with a good design award, have been executed in a multitude of media and distributed widely into virtually every corner of America. Fred Press is most known for his sculpture, but his unique glassware was popular during the 1940s, 50s, 60s and continues to be popular today!

This particular carafe by Corning can be seen on page 121 of the 3rd edition of the Mauzy Pyrex book. They were sold both with and without a lid. They were meant to go on a wire rack over a flame on the stove to keep coffee warm.

I say repurpose this item and make it a fun and funky summertime cold beverage server: iced tea, lemonade, cocktails even.

There is a little wear to the inside of the neck as seen in the photo. There is a slight scratch to the side of the brass collar. Buy it and enjoy using it with no fear.

Go green! Save resources and purchase a piece of America's past. Sturdy, dependable, dishwasher-friendly, it is ready for your kitchen table today.
