Brooch
Size: 2"
This exquisite antique brooch is carved from, of coarse, pre-ban ivory. Hand-carved from a single piece of elephant tusk. The openwork design features two pheasants or birds amid an incredible profusion of ivy leaves and delicate vines that swirl around a graceful frame. The mossy foliage background makes this a fabulous 3 dimensional brooch. I can only imagine the hours of work this must have taken the craftsman to finish with such a truly superb one of a kind piece of art. The pin is turned up a little at the end, but it does not snag and is the only flaw to the entire piece.

Cuff
This is a large two inch wide Native American silver cuff with turquoise and coral. The inlay motif of a bird in flight is taken from nature, with one on each side. It is marked HMIJ, T. I recently saw a collection of these big Native American bracelets at a flea market, with one like this but in reverse stone colors for $800. Current market value has dropped to $550.

Brooch
Size: 1-3/8" x 1-1/4"
We're back from your trip to Europe with some lovely pieces. I knew this was special when I found it, but to be honest I can't find anything like it in any of my reference books other than a hand painted brooch on jet black glass.
This brooch is royal blue domed glass. There is wearing on the top, and when viewed with a loupe it doesn't appear to have affected the terrific bird scene at all. That being said, I am not sure if this piece is truly hand painted, or if the scene was part of the glass processing. I was attracted to it not just because of its blue coloring, but because I love jewelry with bird motifs.
Set in what looks like a gold frame with a textured rope twist edge that is hammered on and appears to be gold over brass. It has a C-catch. There are some digs in the frame work that is normal for a piece of this age. The pin is sharp, but has a waved shaft. This does not affect its use. Found in Hungary but has no hallmarks.
Set
This is the most unconventional Schiaparelli set I've ever seen. In her short lived business adventure Elsa used many designers, and the one that came up with this design was way ahead of times. This set was found stored away in an antique shop with many other treasures.
The bracelet is 7-1/4 inches and holds a drop like those of the drop clip earrings which measure 1-3/4 inch. They are made of curved metal and molded confetti glass. Each piece is signed and the earrings carry the patent number dating them to the 1950's, and probably near the end of Schiaparelli's production. They are in excellent condition other than the missing safety chain on the bracelet. This is a grand set to add to a collection. Book value is $485, but the current market value is $325. Pin
Size: 1"
This sweet Victorian pinwheel pin has all the charm that comes with an Art Nouveau design, and then some. The center prongs hold a precious opal from the Australian opal fields discovered in 1870. Around it and nestled in typical motif of the era are tiny seed pearls. The back pin has a ball hinge and a C type clasp, as well as a chain ring. Unmarked tested 10KT gold. Book value is $285, but current market value has dropped to $185.

Magazine
This back issue of Antiques & Collecting Magazine feature subject covers Juliana Jewelry. Pages sampling D&E jewelry with pricing (a couple of them shown), as well as key questions to help you identify whether it’s the real thing. Also included is a detailed list of common misconceptions regarding the "rules" of identity to Juliana jewelry. You will find this magazine a nice addition to your reference guides.
Other articles covered are the Smith Brothers Glass, Collector's Guide to Washington, DC, Actor John Spencer’s collection and an article on collectible Comic Books to name a few. The magazine is old, new stock. With the demise of antique reference guides, this type of reading will become harder to acquire.
Necklace
Size: 18" Chain
Fleur de Lis has been a popular motif every since it was introduced. It's surprising the old pieces don't come up on the market very often. This lovely onyx pendant, measuring 1-3/8 inch, is topped with a small Fleur de Lis that is peppered with tiny seed pearls that are all original to the piece. It’s set in a twisted gold plate frame that looks like sterling vermeil. The chain is unusual and has etched links. Judging from the design and material used, I am placing this in the Victorian era from about the 1880's. Current market has dropped from $585 to $385.

Demi Parure
Often overlooked by the novice vintage jewelry collector in favor of Miriam Haskell, De Mario costume jewelry is relatively rare and enjoys high prices in the collectible market. Only in business from 1945 to 1960 due to Robert De Mario's decision to retire, its rarity alone is not responsible for the high prices. The jewelry is treasured by collectors who recognize it’s high quality and beautiful designs, and who are unwilling to part with pieces at any price.
Made of faux glass gray pearls and Aurora Borealis rhinestones, topped on filigree findings, with both the necklace and bracelet having pearl and rhinestone dangles. The necklace is adjustable with its Miriam Haskell style flower hook (it is the only piece that is not marked) and measures 17 inches long. The clip earrings are 1.5 inch, and the double strand bracelet is 7-1/4 inch. This demi parure is missing only the brooch. You'll look like royal elegance in this set. Book value is $1200.
Condition: It is in very good condition with touches of normal wear spots; one elongated pearl missing from one clip earring (I actually like it better that way and would remove one from the other, although it is not noticeable), a couple flea pricks to the pearl finish on the bracelet and I found a few spots of verdigris that came off as I spot cleaned. I didn't go over every inch, but those are the flaws I noticed during inspection.

Bracelet
Size: 7-1/2" x 1-1/4"
According to the extensive Warman's Vintage Jewelry Price Guide, the Art Deco bracelets were made of Sterling, Pot Metal or Rhodium. I am guessing this one is rhodium since it is not marked Sterling, and is much shinier. Its a nice size, both with its 7-1/2 inch length and the large width of 1-1/2 inch.
Typical of most of these Art Deco rhinestone encrusted pieces, there are dead rhinestones. I'd guess 1/4 of them being the case. With hundreds of stones the dark ones add beauty and give credibility to the fact that it is nearly 100 years old.
The bracelet closes with two latches over clasps and is secured with a safety chain. Each of the eight sections is linked with baguette cut stones. Book value is $365, but current market value has dropped to $250.
Necklace
Size: 19"
This one of a kind, hand made Victorian necklace is superb to say the least. The jet beads hang 19 inches and hold a 3" by 2-1/4" pendant. Each piece of Whitby jet is faceted and strung on wire attached to a metal base. There are two pieces of jet missing; one small round bead on the outer edge at 2 o'clock, and the point of the horn on the other lower side. There is so much detail and shine to the pendant that the damage is only notice when inspected closely.
The center of attention are the two gutta percha cameos framed with square facet jet, and a pinwheel just below. The necklace has been re-strung so it will wear without worry of breakage. Since this is impossible to compare with anything for a value, I have taken into account other pieces from the 1800's that are also unique and made of the same material to come up with an estimated value of $1500.
Bracelet
Size: 7"
One of the prettiest and scarce Kramer designs employed foil backed red glass cabochons with a blue Aurora Borealis coating that became known as watermelon. They look like berries nestled in textured little gold tone leafs. Measures 7 inches.
Condition: Good condition; showing a little yellowed glue in the back cavities, and some foil missing which is not noticed in the front appearance.
Earrings
Size: 1.5"
These earrings are huge frosted green cabochons in detailed light gold tone clip settings. I just brought them to an antique show where the heat from the sun caused an inner crack in one of them. It is noticed only at certain angles (photos are taken at all angles). These look so great I didn't want to just toss them out. They are nice and light weight for comfort and would go great with Christmas jewelry.
Set
Size: 7-1/8"; 1" earrings
Unusual Lucite confetti with rich gold tone leaf motif bracelet and earring set. Each cabochon has a purple base that is topped with clear Lucite with off white shell like bits and golden confetti floating throughout. The Lucite gives the cabochons a plum color which proved to be impossible to capture in the photos. The first photo is the true color of the metal work, and the second photo is the closest I could get to the cabochons. The bracelet has a fold over clasp and is just over seven inches, and the clip earrings are one inch. Comparable price elsewhere would be $150, so don't let this deal slip by.
Set
Size: Necklace 31", Earrings 1-1/8"
Back in the 1960s imported ethnic handmade jewelry was being sold out of bouquets in the malls. It was all so lovely I remember when shopping it was always hard to make a selection to take home. At the time the price was always the deciding factor since they were not offered at Dime Store prices.
This beaded necklace with a 2.5" pendant reminds me of those days. The pendant has a hammered floral design and the brass has an applied bronze finish front and black painted back. The 24 inches of hollowed metal beads are in muted colors (more so than my photos indicate) of bronze, rust, and blue, with spacer beads that also make up the last two inches on each side for a comfortable fit behind the neck.
The clip earrings are much old and are marked Western Germany. They are such an incredible match that I had to offer them with the necklace as a set.
Necklace
Size: 22" Chain
Great Asian motif pendant with ornate 22 inch chain. The four inch pendant includes an oriental house with dragon and green glass beads. Gold tone finish is in excellent condition other than wear from the C ring that holds the dangle and the bottom of the pin that holds the middle bead, neither of which is noticed unless viewed with close-up tools. Book value runs at $60.
Necklace
Size: 18" Chain
Nature was a big topic in the 1960s, much like the Green movement today. This brown leaf necklace is typical of the pop era when even pet rocks were turned into jewelry. On a sixteen inch chain, the leaf is heavily coated with a clear finish. I don't know how this was accomplished, as it looks dipped, but how the leaf was not damaged in the technique is still a mystery to me. Book value $15.
Size: 28" Chain
A 1960s hip modernist abstract pendant on a nice 28 inch length chain. The 2-1/2 inch pendant looks like putter with a brushed finish and the center ball is either silver or base metal. Obviously a handmade necklace. Marking is BT V9 and I haven't a clue what it stands for. It does look typical of a Scandinavian made item. Could use a polish.
Necklace
Size: 26" with 3" Pendant
Ox bone jewelry dates back to the mid 17th century and is still being made today in Thailand, Bali, Japan, Africa and China. Most of the jewelry made for export is crudely made, which is how I would describe this piece, although much time was needed to hand carve them. Much of the newer pieces are in a dark color and may be stained. I have to admit I know very little about it, nor can I find anything helpful online. Much can be told in the design, since certain motif popularity has changed over the years.
I have several nice ox bone necklaces I bought from an estate. This necklace is the largest. It looks unused with no patina from use. The large three inch pendant has a carved elephant and along the 26 inch beaded necklace are large one inch carved elephants. It has a bone screw back closure.
