CIVIL WAR GENERAL ORDER GROUP a great group of approximately 150 Civil War Union Army General Orders, issued 1861-65 by the War Dept, Washington, DC. These were individually published, then bound, and pertain to everything from courtmartials, officers dismissed for drunkenness, soldier misdeeds, Invalid Corp transfer rosters, regiments, paroles, pillage, commander assignments, etc. About 1/3 are exc or have punch-holes ( were originally issued singly, then bound in "red tape "((origin of the expression), the rest are disbound from 1861-65 bound sets with edge cuts, some trimmed, most w pencil notations. All complete, some multipage. Most vg. The group

SOLDIER KEY CHAIN FREDERICKSBURG a really neat excavated artifact- a home made key chain, w keys, dug near Fredericksburg Virginia in the 1960s. The inventive soldier made the chain from a sword brass sword hanger clip & a brass cavalry bridle chain; the chain holds 4 keys-3 iron & & one brass; the latter key is a very early style leg iron key. A very nice example of a Civil War soldier's creative use of field gear.
