EPPING NEW HAMPSHIRE CIVIL WAR SOLDIER LETTER

An original Civil War letter from Prescott Chase, Epping, New Hampshire, father of soldier John W Chase, to Army Surgeon Albert, requests help in locating his son who hasnít written home in 7 weeks. Dr Albert L Norris was a surgeon with the 114th United States Colored Infantry; John W Chase enlisted as a private, serving as a hospital corpman, and in 1863 was promoted to a 2nd Lieutenant with the 95th US Colored Infantry. 2p ink letter w cover, addressed to Norris as "Acting Asst Surgeon, USA HQ 25th Army Corp, Brownsville, Texas". When Abraham Lincoln took office, President James Buchanan returned to his home at Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Buchanan's personal copy of a Civil War newspaper, the March 19, 1864 edition of the Washington Intelligencer, ink addressed "Hon Jas Buchanan Lancaster".- Civil War era papers were ink addressed to each subscriber. a nice personal relic of the President who began the Civil War.
