1939 New York Worlds Fair Souvenir Coin Token, Copyright #593 Neat piece of historical memorabilia or souvenir from the great 1939 New York World's Fair. This is a souvenir coin or token which has a hole in it at one end to permit wearing on a chain if so desired (we do not have the chain). A round small metal coin whose color is that of slightly tarnished brass, although we don't know for sure if this is made of brass but a magnet does not stick to it. We believe this to be an authenic souvenir of this event (we don't know if they even have made reproductions...we are not experts on these pieces) because on one side in small type there is a copyright symbol (c in a circle) with the initials "N.Y.W.F." and on the same side opposite this there is a number, "593", in small type which may be the number of issue.
This antique piece is decorated with raised decor on both sides. On one side is a picture of the Trylon and Perisphere from the World Fair, surrounded by clouds and a rayed line design, with words circling this on three sides saying "SOUVENIR NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR 1939". The copyright symbol and initials mentioned above are next to the "S" in Souvenir, with the number "593" next to the "9" in 1939. The hole for hanging is between the words "York" and "World's". On the other side of the coin is a central picture of the Empire State Building , again surrounded by clouds and rayed lines, with the name of the building above this and what looks like horseshoes around the bottom half of the coin near the edge, we presume to symbolize Good Luck to the recipient. On this side the hole is under the base of the building.
Vintage token measures about 1 3/16 in diameter and is shown in one image below with a quarter for size comparison. There are five images overall, with the coin photographed in some lying flat while in others it is leaning or propped up, causing the color to look different due to lighting reflections and angles from the camera. We have shown the coin both ways to deal with the white "hot spots" lighting reflection from the camera and provide differing views of the coin details and condition.
This souvenir is in wonderful old condition but it is not mint, and has a circulated look. As you can see in the images, there is some orange dirt/spotting/rust/tarnish in the clouds near the Perisphere and some darkening around the hole on both sides of the coin. You can see wear/aging/rubbed spots/wear dots/scratches on both sides of the coin, and there are definite spots where the top shiny surface has been worn away revealling similar colored but duller metal underneath, such as on the Perisphere and the clouds on this side, and in smaller spots elsewhere. There is expected wear to the edges of the token (rubbed spots, worn away spots, scratches, etc.). Definitely not a newly minted look, but to us this is not bad and not unexpected for a piece of this age and it adds to the age believability.
A great addition to any collection of commemorative pieces from this Worlds Fair or a collection of World's Fair pieces in general, as well as a nice item for inclusion in any collection of souvenir tokens or exonumia.

Lenox Smoke Blue Wine or Champagne Glass Single beautiful signed Lenox wine or champagne glass in what we believe is called 'smoke blue' color, it is not cobalt blue (although color is off in images causing it to sometimes appear a bit like that), but rather medium blue color that may have a mixture of gray in it. Please note that glass is much bluer than appears in images (versus the images, it has more 'dark turquoise blue' to it). While a round glass, bottom of bowl has been formed in six-sided or hexagon shape with side ridges & molded curves above the hexagon.
Total height 5 1/8 inches, bowl top diameter 3 7/8 inches, bowl depth about 2 1/2 inches, on stem ending in circular base about 3 inches in diameter. Very nice condition, no chips or cracks, but does have a few stray light scratches & two rubbed or wear lines or light discoloration lines (each about 1 inch long, they follow curved design above hexagon on one side of glass in kind of a 'curved v', they don't jump out at you & wouldn't be noticed sitting on table, but if you go looking, you'll find them).

Abingdon Pottery Turquoise Double Handled Vase Pretty ceramic vase made by Abingdon Pottery likely in the 1950's. Only some of the letters in the manufacturer's name appear stamped on the underside base (part of the "n" and "g" and most of the "don") along with "U.S.A.", but we believe this is who made this piece based on others we've seen in the past. Very nice turquoise color with two small handles at the waist on either side of the vase in curved leaf shapes. The bottom of the vase is bulbous, elegantly extending upwards to a flared circular top rim.
This old vase stands 7 inches tall, about 3 5/8 inches greatest width and 3 1/4 inches depth, with a smaller cinched in round base having a diameter of about 2 3/8 inches. This piece is ceramic or pottery and not porcelain (it is not translucent). We've provided 6 images to show varied views along with close-ups of the manufacturer marking. Please note that the white "hot spots" are reflections from the camera lighting on the high gloss surface. Also, the all-over turqouise color is richer and a bit greener/truer turquoise color in person than appears in the images due to the camera lighting effect (the camera makes the vase seem a bit more just light blue in color).
Wonderful overall condition with no chips, cracks or crazing but not mint. There is nothing major to worry about here but the vase has minor use/age/manufacturing flaws as would be expected. There are pin/pit dots in the ceramic, dark pin dots in the pottery, a few light surface scratches with at least one creating a tiny tiny white pin dot (nothing bad), a few small stain/wear spots (nothing bad, we see 2 of these below the cinched in area at the bottom and one on the upper interior of the vase), a tiny impressed curved line mark along the lower base edge that looks made in manufacture to us, some impressed lines and wear on the underside base on which the piece sits. But you have to look very closely like we do to notice these things; most would just see the nifty shape and color.
A neat vintage piece to use or put on display as part of an Abingdon Pottery collection or a colorful room addition.

Souvenir China Mug of Washington's Headquarters at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, Adams Potteries Jonroth China Nifty antique collectible souvenir china mug in red and white with image of Washington's Headquarters in Valley Forge, PA from Valley Forge National Park. Made by Jonroth China or Jonroth Potteries, which is part of the Adams Potteries manufacturing company in Staffordshire, England. This piece is china, ceramic or pottery; it is not porcelain as it is not translucent. Measures 4 1/4 inches in height, about 4 1/2 inches in greatest width (from outside of handle to opposite end of mug), and about 3 9/16 inches in depth. We don't know the age of this vintage piece, but we guesstimate that it could date to the 1920s or 1930s from the style.
Neat, clean white pottery with transfer image in red of George Washington's head quarters in Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War on both sides of the mug, with an upper rim border of floral and geometric trim. There is a red line decor on the squarish, angular handle. Shape of the mug is largely round with fluting...it is not a circle but has a wavy, fluted feel to the top and bottom edges and overall body of the mug as molded. At the bottom of the image on both sides are printed the words, "Washington's Headquarters, 1777-78 Valley Forge, PA" (Pa, Pennsylvania, Penn., Penna.). The old mug is fully marked on the underside base with, "Old English Staffordshire Ware, Jonroth, England" with the Jonroth Potteries crown insignia, and under this, "Made in Staffordshire England by the Adams Potteries established in 1657." There is also a transfer "E" in black that is partially visible on the underside. We have provided six images showing from different sides including close-ups and the manufacturer marking.
Excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing. There are a few stray scratches or rubbed marks but nothing major and nothing to worry about. As manufactured, there are some stray transfer red dots, pin & pit dots, tiny dark dots, etc., but nothing bad or unexpected. There is one spot along the rim which has some very tiny dark dots and perhaps a touch of glaze wear, but nothing bad at all (no chips, we're looking very, very close to find this). And two spots on the sides near the rim where there is a touch of wear to the red transfer, but this may be incomplete transferring as it was made, we don't know, this doesn't look worn to us. This mug is very clean and good-looking, looking to us as if it was never used but just sat on a shelf on display. There is expected wear/darkening to the underside base from age sitting.
A lovely piece to add to any collection of souvenir china relating to Valley Forge, Valley Forge National Park, George Washington at Valley Forge or items related to the Revolutionary War in America overall. Also a nice addition to any collection of Jonroth Studios or Adams Potteries pieces. Could make an interesting gift for anyone interested in national park collectibles or memorabilia or items related to President George Washington or this period in history.

Vintage Adderley Adderleys Montroyal Tea Cup & Saucer Lovely antique cup and saucer, made by Adderley in what we believe to be the Montroyal pattern. Both pieces are marked on the underside bases with "Montroyal, Made in England by Adderleys Ltd, Best Bone China". Pattern is a white porcelain with delicate colored flowers and an intricate black design, with a black lined yellow thin band on the interior of the cup and surrounding the indentation for the cup on the saucer, and a thin gold line edging to both pieces. Very ornate looking. Pieces look to be tea cup (teacup) size.
Cup and saucer together sit about 2 3/4 inches in height. Saucer is round with flared up rims, measuring 5 1/2 inches in diameter. Cup sits about 2 3/8 inches in height alone, with a top round opening diameter of 3 3/4 inches and a cinched-in base measuring about 1 3/4 inches in diameter. The cup handle has an elegant scrolled effect with gold line accenting. Please note that the white "hot spots" in the images are lighting reflections from the camera.
Very pretty, eye-catching condition, but these pieces do have some age wear flaws. There are no major chips, cracks or crazing, but on very close examination we do see two tiny flakes on the rim of the saucer which someone has touched up with a bit of gold paint. There is some age wear on the gold (not really bad, but if you look closely you'll see it) and tiny scratches on the pieces from use which are only visible if you look closely at an angle in bright light. There is also age wear to the black line decor (again not bad, but there), some pin/pit dots, and a rubbed spot on the underside of the saucer. All not unexpected for old pieces which were likely used, but they are still in great overall shape and would make a neat addition to any collection of this terrific pattern, Adderley pieces, or cups & saucers in general.

Cutty Sark Scotch Whisky Large Pottery Water Pitcher This is a neat advertising distillery item collectible, a large ceramic or pottery pitcher associated with Cutty Sark Scotch Whisky. It is ivory colored with black graphic designs on all sides, with a black line drawing of the Cutty Sark Clipper Ship or Sailing Ship marked 1869 on one side, a black line drawing of "Captain John Willis of the Cutty Sark" with "Old White Hat" wording on the opposite side, and midway under the spout the words "Cutty Sark Scotch Whisky" surrounded by a floral graphic. There is a black line on the large side handle and another black line circling the pitcher near the top rim.
The pitcher stands about 6 1/2 inches tall, measures about 7 1/4 inches greatest width, about 4 3/4 inches in depth and has a round base with a diameter of 3 3/4 inches. On the underside of the base are the impressed letters "TLH", the impressed number "90" on the rim, and the words stamped in black in a half circle "Imported by the Buckingham Corp. NY., NY. Distilled, Blended & Bottled in Scotland '86". We believe this indicates this piece was made and distributed as an advertising collectible in 1986 (or maybe 1990 from the impressed "90"?). We've provided 8 images to show from all sides and details. Please note that the white "hot spots" are lighting reflection from the camera on the glossy surface. For shipment purposes, this piece is heavy for it's size and weighs slightly over 2 pounds unpacked.
Wonderful condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. There are some in-manufacture pin/pit dots and stray transfer dots, as well as some expected darkening from sitting on the underside rim, but nothing to report that is a problem at all.
A terrific piece which would make a great addition to any collection of distillery advertising items, a collection of nautical or clipper ship or sailing ship related items, or a general collection of pitchers. Very clean and also highly usable as a fun item to use in a bar or entertaining situation.

1900 Antique Maps, U.S.A. & combined MA, CT & RI; also OH & IL Original 1900 antique maps (antique map), two-sided (different maps on each side of the page), from 'Peerless Atlas of the World', Farm & Fireside Library, No. 181, March 1900, published by The Crowell & Kirkpatrick Co., Springfield, Ohio. Size about 14 x 22 in. (a double page spread with tri-fold lines). Overall condition for age very good, but pages very brittle. The Ohio & Illinois maps have most corners missing at an angle (one is much larger than the other 2, these don't extend into the map itself, but the large one comes close), tears along tri-folds that extend into maps and one similar page edge tear plus other page edge roughness (we think most of this would not be seen matted & framed).
Listed here are two maps. One is the map with the United States (as it existed in 1900) on one side, with a combined map on the other of Massachusetts, Connecticut & Rhode Island (MA, CT, RI). The other map has Ohio on one side and Illinois on the other. Another 7 maps are listed in a group separately. As an example, we've shown the Minnesota map from the same book. 1898 USS Maine Funeral & Court of Inquiry Prints, Spanish American War 13 x 10 3/4 inches Original book page which appears to have a photo on each side, from "The Battle with Spain", published by New York Monthly Company, New York in 1898. Not a reproduction, but page from an antique 1898 issue of this book (we guarantee this), with an antique print on each side of the page. On one side it's a photo of the "Funeral of the Victims of the 'Maine' Disaster" (USS Maine, U.S.S. Maine). On the other side is a photo of "The Court of Inquiry in Session" after the destruction of the Second-Class Battleship Maine (please note that there are other photos from the USS Maine in items #1010, 1011, 1012 and 1207).
There is a paragraph under each photo providing much information and a detailed description. The funeral picture shows horse drawn carriages conveying the bodies of some of the 200 men killed in the U.S.S. Maine attack. This particular view shows "the funeral cortege entering the Prado from Obispo street, on its way to Christopher Colon Cemetery" in Havana, Cuba, where most of the bodies were buried.
As detailed under the Court Of Inquiry photo, "Within a few days after the destruction of the 'Maine' the government (of the U.S.) proceeded to institute an official inquiry in the cause of the disaster". It further states that this view "shows the full Board in session, on the lighthouse tender 'Mangrove,' examining Ensign Powelson, whose evidence was of the most important character upon which the conclusions of the Board were largely based." The paragraph mentions the naval officers chosen to compose the board, who therefore are shown here: "Captain William T. Sampson, of the 'Iowa,' President; Captain F. E. Chadwick, of the cruiser 'New York;' Lieutenant-Commander William R. Potter, executive officer of the 'New York,' and Lieutenant-Commander Adolph Marix, executive officer of the training ship 'Vermont,' the latter acting as judge advocate."
The book covers of the original book were in very bad shape, so we removed the good pages and are selling them separately. That is why, while there are no dates on these pages themselves, we can guarantee the age. Overall, this book showed pictures of naval vessels, navy ships, battleships, cruisers, gunboats, etc., which were part of the U.S. Navy at the time of the war with Spain (or the Spanish American war, the one with "Remember the Maine").
Excellent condition black & white photograph or picture, on full page measuring about 13 inches x 10 3/4 inches. No major tears, bending, or yellowing. There is very very minor page edge wear (corner creasing, other edge handling wear) and expected overall handling wear for a book page (no large creases, but the little within-the-page handling bumps or creases that you see from a page being handled or turned within a book). There is also the expected uneven edge where the page was taken from the book, and slight browning at the edges of the pages from age. All of this is very, very minor, and we judge that all would not be noticeable framed. As visible in the images of each page, you will see that the photos and their paragraphs, while "level" with each other, and not level horizontally on the pages -- they tilt slightly. This certainly could be compensated for when matted and framed.
A terrific piece to add to a collection related to the Spanish American War, the 1898 War, the U.S.S. Maine, or a collection relating in general to the U.S. Navy or US Navy Vessels, Ships, Battleships, Warships, etc.

1898 Spanish American War Naval Ship Print, USS Holland Torpedo Boat 13 x 11 inches Original book page which appears to have photos, from "The Battle with Spain", published by New York Monthly Company, New York in 1898. Not a reproduction, but page from an antique issue of this book (we guarantee this), with an antique print on each side of the page; on the two sides of this page are stern and bow views of the Holland Submarine Torpedo Boat.
The book showed pictures of naval vessels, navy ships, battleships, cruisers, gunboats, etc., which were part of the U.S. Navy at the time of the war with Spain (or the Spanish American war, the one with "Remember the Maine!"). No copyright dates appear on the book pages. There are two different paragraphs describing the ship under the two pictures.
Excellent condition black & white photographs, on full page measuring about 13 inches wide x 11 inches high. No major bending, or yellowing. There is a large corner tear in one corner, but it is entirely in the margin area and could be covered with a matte when framing. There is other very minor page or corner edge wear and expected handling wear for a book page (no large creases, but the little within-the-page handling bumps or small creases that you see from a page being handled or turned within a book; we judge that this would not be noticeable framed). There is what looks like "print rubbing", print transfer or spotting in the white margin areas which we believe was done in manufacture, as well as some incomplete printing in some of the words in the paragraph on the "bow" side and white faint vertical lines & dots on the photograph (must have been a poor quality photo to start with). There is also the expected uneven edge where the page was taken from the book.
The book covers were in very bad shape, so we removed the good pages and are selling them separately. A terrific piece to add to a collection related to the Spanish American War, the 1898 War, or a collection relating in general to the U.S. Navy or US Navy Vessels, Ships, Battleships, Warships, etc.

1898 Naval Ship Print, USS Cincinnati; USS Detroit; Gun Photos 13 x 11 inches Original book page which appears to have photos, from "The Battle with Spain" published by New York Monthly Company, New York in 1898. Not a reproduction, but page from an antique issue of this book (we guarantee this), with antique prints on each side of the page; on one side there are two prints of ships, the Protected Cruiser Cincinnati (copy states that this ship was commanded by Captain Colby M. Chester) and the Unprotected Cruiser Detroit (copy states that this ship was commanded by James H. Dayton). On the other side there are two prints of guns, "Practice with a rapid-fire gun" showing gunners of the protected cruiser Atlanta at target practice with a one-pound rapid-fire machine gun; and "Drilling with a Gatling gun" showing a pratice drill on the wooden school-ship Enterprise with a gang of cadets at exercise with a Gatling gun.
The book showed pictures of naval vessels, navy ships, battleships, cruisers, gunboats, etc., which were part of the U.S. Navy at the time of the war with Spain (or the Spanish American war, the one with "Remember the Maine!"). There is a paragraph describing the ships or the weapons underneath the bottom photo on each page.
Excellent condition black & white photographs, on full page measuring about 13 inches wide x 11 inches high. There are some defined curved creases within the page in the pictures of the Cincinnati and the Gatling Gun (they're on opposite sides) that may have been made in manufacture from their ragged style (or something was rubbed on the page) and result in white dotting or light lines on the pictures (not really bad, but there). There is other very minor page or corner edge wear and expected handling wear for a book page (the little within-the-page handling bumps or small creases that you see from a page being handled or turned within a book; we judge that this would not be noticeable framed). There is a touch of browning towards the page edges (nothing bad).

1898 USS Maine Ward Room & Junior Officers Prints, Spanish Am War 13 x 10 3/4 inches Original book page which appears to have a photo on each side, from "The Battle with Spain", published by New York Monthly Company, New York in 1898. Not a reproduction, but page from an antique 1898 issue of this book (we guarantee this), with an antique print on each side of the page. On one side it's a photo of the Ward-room of the Second-Class Battleship Maine (USS Maine, U.S.S. Maine). In the paragraph beneath the photo it states that the ward room is an apartment used by all commissioned officers except the captain, with this view taken "some months" before the ship's destruction. It further states that one of the two officers who lost their lives on the Maine (among the 200 who died) appears in the picture, Engineer Merritt (but it doesn't point out which gentleman he is). On the other side of the page is a photo of "A Group of Junior Officers of the 'Maine'", also referred to as petty officers (please note that there are other photos from the USS Maine in items #1009, 1011, 1012 and 1207).
Navy at the time of the war with Spain (or the Spanish American war, the one with "Remember the Maine!").
Excellent condition black & white photographs or pictures, on full page measuring about 13 inches x 10 3/4 inches. No major tears, bending, or yellowing. There is very minor page edge wear (corner bending, other edge handling wear, all very minor), some stray dots and expected overall handling wear for a book page (no large creases, but the little within-the-page handling bumps or creases that you see from a page being handled or turned within a book, the most prominent small crease occurs in the white margin area). There is also the expected uneven edge where the page was taken from the book, and slight browning at the edges of the pages from age. We would consider all of this minor, and we judge that most or all of this would not be noticeable framed.
A terrific piece to add to a collection related to the Spanish American War, the 1898 War, the U.S.S. Maine, or a collection relating in general to the U.S. Navy or US Navy Vessels, Ships, Battleships, Warships, etc.
