Material: She appears to be made of wood w/gilded coating.
Weight: 8 Oz's.
Condition: good to fair considering the age. There is flaking on the mount, which is visible in the photos. A small bit on the top of the hair covering and rim.
Acquired at the famous NYC Pier Show in the 1980's. Reported to have come from a mansion on Long Island, NY.
Size: Angel: 6 H x 4 W x 2½ D Base: 5 W x 5 D x 1¾ H
Total Height: 7¾ H
Weight: approx. 4 lbs.
Markings: on front (by the right foot there is the number 145 otherwise there are no markings.
Condition: Good worn condition
The piece has a silver-plate type coating, which is worn. What looks to me as either brass or bronze shows through in areas. The base and wings appear to have been weathered. The wings are attached by a screw in the back.
The angel is holding what could be a tiny candle holder. The diameter of the inside of the holder is 3/8 of an inch. Also there is no bottom to the holder. There are two holes on the bottom of the base for attaching the piece on to a newel post or anywhere else one might want to attach this.
History of this piece: I acquired this from a collector who found it in Tianjin, China. Tianjin has an interesting history of colonization by the British and French at the turn of the 20th century. As people from these countries colonized that part of China, they brought with them pieces from Europe. This could possibly be French in origin and dating from the late 1880s to early 1900s.
Age: 20th Century - I acquired this piece at the NYC's famous Armory Show in the 1970's
Condition: very good
The piece has two faces on opposite sides of it's head. Each face is identical to the other. There is a hole in the top part of the piece for attachment to an architectural rod?
Size: 8 Inches Tall x 7 Inches Wide x 2 Inches Deep.
Age: 19th Century.
Condition: Good. There are a few minor age cracks or they happened during the carving. One is around the area under the bottom lip and a few around the area that drapes down from the side of the cheek area near the nose and mouth. There is also a minor indent at the end of the nose. This is a very solid piece. There are two holes on the back at the top for hanging.
This is a very handsome piece. It is from an Estate Sale and comes from a mansion on Long Island, New York. There is a good weight to it (2 lbs.) and it is very solid. Please note that the color is a deep solid brown, the reddish streaks are from the camera flash.
Condition: Good. Please Note that although I feel this is mostly if not all brass it has a silver color metal on the back. This candle-holder has been well used. It is stained by years of candle smoke. It was brought back from Napel by a dealer in Asian Arts. If you are interested in a pair, I also have a companion piece available.
The twin's background is approx. 1 inch shorter in height.
