The knife - puukko - was purchase in 1970 from the Antiques Section of the famous Stockman's Department Store in Helsinki, Finland. They stated that the knife was made in 1930 in Lapland.
The puukko is 11 inches long with a 7 inches long primitive hand-forged blade inscribed with: VT. The blade has not been sharpened since it's manufacture but shows the effects of primitive tools used in it's forging & the manual sharpening as part of it's hand tooling.
The handle is carved from reindeer antler & has very little decoration except on the top edge.
The scabbard is 12 inches long & is constructed from reindeer antler for the lower blade cover section, while the upper section is of leather, hand-tooled with an original Finnish Kalevala & other traditional decorations.
An applied leather strap is imprinted with sawtooth symbols. On the back side of the leather sheath portion the maker's initials: VP tooled in the leather. The sheath has a twisted leather tong for attaching to your belt.
The antler section is decorated in a most unusual manner with hand carved hearts alternating with star bursts or flowers, The edges are beautifully hand-serrated. The antler is left in it's natural color on the outward & reverse sides. The hand carvings reveal the lighter inner portion of the the antler for a wonderful contrast.
The knife fits snugly into the scabbard & creates a formidable weapon of 13 1/2" long. It is the most unusual reindeer antler knife we have seen, & we were excited when we were able to add it to our collection of unique antique weapons. The knife is in mint original condition as it has been in storage since it was purchased in the 1970's & is in mint original condition although it is 75 years old.
It is truly a beautiful & unusual item. Thank you for stopping by The Treasure Chest. (Item ID:NN-13)

Those who know glass artistry, are aware of how difficult it is to to the "feather" pull-ups that make of the design of this item.
I know the "75" is for the date it was created as I've owned it since that time & have had it on display in my extensive art & antique glass collection.
The finish is an iridescent, soft sea mist color, with old gold threaded loop pull-ups. The gold also continues inside the top portion of the vase.. This requires great skill to accomplish. It has it's original Correia paper logo as well as his signature & date it was crafted.
The vase measures 7" tall & is in a double gourd form. If you love sophisticated & beautiful art glass, this is the item for you. It is in mint condition with no chips, cracks or scratches.
A wonderful item for any collector of fine American artist-made glass. Thank you for shopping at The Treasure Chest.
