Original Oil Painting by John Clendening 1982 This is a realistic oil painting on board by John Clendening. Many of his paintings are of nature, however, he also had an intense interest in space, painting his impressions of the Apollo 16 flight and being commissioned by NASA to create a painting of the MIR-Shuttle rendezvous. The latter is on exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center. He was trained at the Corcoran School of Art, Washington D.C. and for many years was a designer for the Smithsonian Institute. He was selected to be chief of design at the National Air & Space Museum. This painting is entitled, "Rockledge with Leaves Under Water," and was entered into an exhibit of thumb box paintings in 1982. The colors are expecially beautiful and make a grand statement on a very non-complex theme. The painting, in frame, measures 19" X 16 inches. The painting is in pristine condition. Some wear to the mat and frame, but not enough to detract from the overall presentation.
