The background coloring of this set is quite exquisite! We haven't come across another one with this wonderful, pastel shading! The footed tea cup and saucer have lovely ribbing, and a pair of flowers is displayed on one side of the cup's interior. Both pieces are accented in gold trim. Made in Staffordshire, England. Brown Transferware Plate of Derwent Water in British Lakes Series, 1829-1845. Made in Staffordshire. The brown transfer-printed decoration shows Derwent Water lake surrounded by mountains. Also in the scene are a rustic cottage and a man on horseback herding livestock. Derwent Water was on the itinerary of Romantic pilgrims to the Lake District. Backstamp carries Willow Tree with British Lakes stamp. Excellent condition probably manufactured during 1940-1950 as a remake of the original series.

It was restored by the Ohio Historical Society and opened to the public in 1953. Thus my guess on the age of the plate. England, no chips or cracks. You can use as a table centerpiece with fruit, or drill a hole in center bottom to use as a unique sink in your new, made to look vintage powder room. It is not porcelain; it is likely earthenware or semi-porcelain. It is 14.5 long x 10.75 wide. The color is a deep teal blue and goes great with the other 2 antique platters I have for sale too!
